Afraid I'm eating to much!

Recommended Posts

I'm about 4 months post op and have lost about 65 lbs. I have been on solids for like 2 1/2 months now. I am so afraid that I am eating to much, like I've seen people say that they can only eat like the size of a chicken. But with me it varies, I realize the density and consistency of the food makes a difference but it still worries me. Like I take a Fiber 1 yogurt and emerald 100 calorie pack nuts to work for lunch, then when I get home I eat like amsmall bowl of chili or something and find myself like eating like 5 or 6 triscuts throughout the evening. I'm just wondering if its all in my head from all the years of being forced to clean up my plate as a child and then uncontrolled eating for the last 15 years. I really want this to work so that I can finally have the life that I feel that I deserve, but at times I feel so guilty about eating that I make myself purge.

Not sure what you mean by "the size of a chicken", but a yogurt, a few nuts, a small bowl of chili and a few crackers should add up to about 500 calories. If that is all you are eating I think you are definately not overdoing it. I would think that purging would put a lot of unwanted stress on your stomach. 65 lbs. in four months is phenomenal. I wouldn't worry about a thing!

I am 4 months out and I have figured out I can eat around 8-9 oz of mushie sort of food like lasagna or bowls of thick Soups with a bit of meat in them and veggies. If I am eating a purely Protein item like chicken or beef I get full on around 5oz of it. Carbs and liquid consistency foods go down easier.

Hi there fellow BonBon. Everything u listed sounds just fine. Im only a few days out but from reading for months now, and from what my dr told me, it sounds like you need to up your protien levels. Other then that the amount isn't shocking at all.

Please talk to ur dr or a professional about making yourself throw up though. At only 4 months out (well at any time really) that may be doing some real damage to your tiny stomach. It also isn't helping you establish the healthy habits and life style that we must learn in order for this tool to work for us years down the line.

You have lost 65 pound in 4 months, say that out loud to yourself. It takes most folks about a year to loose 50 pounds with no surgery. Purging is a sign of other issues going on and I really think you need to talk to someone so it does not become a physical or emotional issue.

For me using an online calorie calculator really helped. Don't think I could have done it without that, I'm not mathematically inclined...

Anyway, I started at BMI 36 and am now down to about BMI 22.5. I never ate just 600 calories after the mushy food stage but started around 850 and while losing I gradually increased it to about 1100. It suited me fine and I lost all the weight in about nine months, which was certainly quick enough. Now that I'm maintaining I don't count calories anymore, I simply step on the scales once a week and adjust accordingly.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
