Anyone with Aetna and doing the pre-surgery 3 month requirements? I am so worried... these past 3 months have been crisis after crisis.. Sick baby in and out of Children's Hospital, Teenage child drama drama, illnesses, you name it! I haven't been able to lose any weight. In fact, I have gained 10 pounds since my initial consult.

There is no real stipulation saying how much you have to lose to be approved...but the nutritionist says they want to seem SOME loss... I am so scared I'm going to get denied. I don't think I could handle that on top of everything else....

I have Aetna and I gained weight over those 3 months. My doctor told me they are not looking for weight loss, but rather documentation from a physician that you were on a Doctor ordered diet and visited that doctor 3 months consecutively.

My approval took about 4 weeks. They said nothing about my weight, but did say that one of my visits was more than 30 days from the previous visit. Be sure to watch your dates. I think you will be fine. I have heard that Aetna is one of the easiest companies to obtain approval from!

Don't stress! It will all work out!

I have Aetna and just completed the three month course (3 visits w/surgeon, 1 Nutritionist visit and 1 Psychologist visit). My surgery is scheduled for Dec. 14th and am just waiting on approval.... so I'm kinda nervous while we wait to hear back, I'm hoping I'll hear something this week. We submitted it on the 17th. I haven't lost weight either. My weight has been pretty static for the past 3 months... (although I haven't weighed myself since having Thanksgiving dinner!)

I have Aetna and I found that the approval process went very smoothly. I lost about 15lbs during the 3 month period. I had my initial consult in late April and I had my surgery on July 13th. Generally speaking, I feel like I had more trouble staying on top of my doctor's office to make sure they were moving things along than I did with Aetna. Good luck to you!

I have Aetna and while Aetna has no requirements for weight loss, my Doctor has requirements. Although she has not stated how much specifically to lose, she said she needs to see some weight loss or she will not perform the surgery. I will complete my 3 months in mid december, but i won't see her til after dec. (in Jan) due to the holidays and her moving her practice. I'm reaching to lose at least 10 lbs.

I have aetna and it was very surprising on how easy it went. My doctor's office was great in filing and letting me know if we needed more. Everything was filed on Tuesday and I was missing a one on one with the nutritionist-this was after 6 months with the PCP. That visit was completed and turned in on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning, I confirmed that Aetna had it and it was being forwarded for medical review. By 2 pm that afternoon, the doctor's office called to schedule as they had receveived the approval. I was so surprised it took 24 hours. My BMI was 38 but I am diabetic.

I have Aetna and did the 3 month program. The paperwork was sent in Wednesday, November 10. On the following Wednesday, I found out that Aetna had misfiled a paper (they had everything they needed), called the doctor's office, and the insurance lady had it straightened out and the permission later that day. My surgery is December 8.

Good luck!

I have Aetna. I don't have to do a PCP monitored weight loss with mine but my Dr did want to know about the diets I have tried. My info will be submitted on Wednesday. I saw the surgeon last Wednesday but with the Holiday there was a delay in getting the letter transcribed. Hopefully things go quick and smoothly!!!

Did you do the 3 month multi discipline? You have to do one or the other with Aetna. Go to Aetna.com and search obesity surgery, it will give you the criteria needed for surgery.

Nope I did neither, I guess the type of Aetna I have doesn't require it. I have at least a dozen people at work that have all used different surgeons and no one has had to. The surgeon said that I was all set and I should have approval this week. She has been doing them for 6 years and off the top of her head knew which types of surgeries Aetna would cover so I am assuming that she has dealt with them before.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
