That's a really good idea Tiff, getting checked for insulin resistance. I'll see if they can do that out here. I try not to stress too much, I take hot showers, listen to good music while on the elliptical, listen to classical while at my desk, get 8 hours sleep. I've decided that I have to do something drastic - I'm going to eat 1000 calories for the next 3 days and see what happens. They will be clean calories - low carb Protein Shakes and bars added to my regular foods. I will also up my carbs to 50 grams a day rather than in the teens. According to my BMR if I want to lose 2 pounds a week I should be taking in 1800 calories, well that's not possible unless I was doing IV nutrition so my compromise is 1000. That's 300 calories more than my average so it's still a big difference. I'm also going to space the food out into 5 little meals instead of 3. Let's see what happens!

I'm glad you're going to try doing near 1000 cal, that might shake things up. That formula that I mentioned in some other thread about your Basic Metabolic Rate minus 500 or 1000 cal to lose 1 or 2 pounds per week is supposedly for normal people on diets not post surgery, for us it's different because of the size of our stomach, etc.Plus these things don't always work mathematically as those of us who have had weight problems well know!

I was diagnosed with insuline resistance a few years ago, which is a type of "pre-diabetes", it was when I was at one of my highest weights, the endocrinologist gave me a diet (low carbs high proteins) I didn't lose that much weight but most of the symptoms dissappeared, the doctor had said at the time that I might have to go on pills, so that was one of the reasons that I decided to have this surgery.

Good luck for the next few days :)

UPDATE -

I changed my calories. Today is Monday, Saturday and Sunday I ate almost 1200 calories. It was exhausting, I never seemed to stop eating and when you have no hunger or desire to eat, it can get obnoxious pretty quick. However. I weighed myself this morning and ... I'm down a pound and a quarter. This is seriously stunning news. I went 5 weeks with absolutely zero movement on the scale - zero, unless you count Constipation weight gain and actual gain when I thought going super low cal (600) was the way to go. I have been stuck at 235 for a month and after 48 hours on higher calorie I lose over a pound? Awesome!

Now, I don't know what this means, it could just be reactionary weight loss. It has only been 2 days, I will continue the 1200 for 2 more days and keep exercising and monitor. Now I wonder if I should do a reverse shock - stay at 1200 five days a week, then drop down to 800 two days a week. We'll see. The thing is, when I first went from 600 to 800 calories I had initial success that first week, and then no more. If that happens again, I can't just keep increasing my calories.

But, you can find a good balance for your loss stats. The first couple of months it's predicted 10-20lbs loss, then it drops to 5-10lbs a months. 2-3lbs a week is what my surgeon wanted from me, but I lost more than that initially. I really think if you do between 800-1200 calories a day, you'll see a steady weight loss.

So glad the scale moved for you -- I know how frustrating it can be to have a scale not move when you're doing everything right -- but I think the big advantage to you figuring this out is the help that it gives us (to be selfish) -- now we know that should we ever get in a situation like you did, to really up the calories and see what happens. I'm really glad this worked -- the worst part is that I was reading and couldn't figure out what to say differently than everyone else -- so hooray! :)

2 days in to the new calorie levels, I lost 1.5 lbs. Two more days, and it came back. Now I don't know what to do.

I am almost 5 months out. On Thanksgiving I calculated all my foods online so that I could partake but not go overboard. Yes, my carbs were high that day, but my overall calorie count was only 20 or so higher than normal.

I am up two pounds.

I'm so depressed about this. How is this possible? In 5 months I have had stalls and maybe a 1/4 lb wavering before a drop, but never a gain. Two pounds. I work out 5 days a week; 20 minutes elliptical, a complete weights circuit. Don't tell me to up the exercise, my circumstances and time capacity barely allow for this much.

At 5 months out I should have lost 100 pounds. I have been so faithful, a model patient, and this is how I am rewarded. What is wrong with my body that it is the freak that refuses to lose weight.

don't beat yourself up about this too much right now. if it continues to occur, speak to your surgeon or something. See what is going wrong. I'm not convinced that it's your fault.

Thanks, I'm actualy 7 months out now, this post is over 2 months old. I have lost since then, a little less than 20 lbs. I have always been a slow loser and seem to be getting slower and slower.

Hi Globetrotter, I came across this thread and wanted to ck in on you...see how things are going! How far from goal are you? What is your caloric intake, what's working? Until I reached goal, I averaged 675, but I have never been an exercise guru, I use a weighted ball and I have a band I use some...both focusing on my arms - just here at home. I've just made lifestyle changes I knew I could stick with....forever! :) Anyway, to maintain, I need 1200 calories, and I have to WORK to get that much in per day. I 'graze' off and on all day, but not on junk. I could easily keep losing, love, love the sleeve! I hope you've gotten the hang of what's working good for you!!!

Hey Txn,

It is now about 2 months since my last post in this topic and I have only lost maybe 5-9 lbs.

I exercise every day; pilates, zumba, tango, belly dancing. I try to hit Protein goal every day but sometimes don't, typically keep my calories below 800, sometimes around 600. Water intake could be better. But the weight just isn't coming off. I thought I got down to 197 2 wks ago but then the scale went back to 201. I am almost 9 months out, a time when most sleevers are boasting about reaching goal. I am 70 lbs away from goal. It is depressing. How could my body not want to lose weight on so little food? I get anywhere from 1 to 2 hours of exercise a day, 5 or 6 days a week. I'm pretty bummed.

Hey GT,

Just had to respond to you... I am in a very similar position too and I am also 9mths out! I too was sorta hoping to be very near goal by now... (I turn 40 next week and sorta had it in my head that I would have lost more by then, kinda birthday present to myself *sigh*)

I am a fair away from my goal and I agree with you it can get you down. I have really weird mood swings with this... some days, like today, I am positive and feel good about what I have achieved and then other days I feel fat and like a failure!

It is soooooo frustrating isn't it... I haven't lost a pound since end of Jan! I have been hitting the guidlines 95% of the time... I ain't perfect, just human! I've tried shaking things up and cutting things down... you name it, I've tried it!!

I have to be honest though, I don't exercise as much as you do... but I do what I can and what i enjoy!

I hope you are ok and as long as there are little loses along the way, we will get to goal...

thinking of you... chin up xx

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
