The Story of Kristy

Recommended Posts

Hello to all!! I came across this site while doing research on the lap band and realized that the lap band was not for me!! I am going the route of the sleeve and will actually be scheduling my surgery today.

Let me introcduce myself. My name is Kristy and I am 33 years old and live in Louisiana. I am a wife and a mother. I have a wonderful husband who paying for me to have this proceedure done, as our insurance will not cover it. I have three wonderful children ages 5,4 and 3 months. I am over weight; have been all my life. The first time that I was called obese I cried. Like many of you, I have tried the sakes, the programs, the pill and pretty much anything else that you can think of. Sure it works for a while but then it all comes back and then some. I want to be able to have that hop in my step, I want to have my confidence back, I want to be able to exercise with my kids, I want to be able to do things with them and not be tired or out of breath or tell them, I am coming, go ahead, I will be there in a bit. I want to be able to keep up with them.

I am nervous. Scared like you would not believe, but I know that this is what I need. In the up coming weeks, I will have many questions and I am sure that my emotions will be all over the place as I begin my life as a sleever. Thank you for being there!

Welcome! You have come to the RIGHT place. I'm not sleeved yet but HOPE to be in December. My advise to you is read everything you can on this website. I was a MESS when I first found this website...an EMOTIONAL MESS! The support that EVERYONE on here gives you is AMAZING to say the least. It's normal to be scared you are changing your life but for the BETTER!! I went through the stage of eating everything in site...which is called the "Last SUPPER stage". Then it hit me WHY I'M I LETTING food CONTROL ME??? This hit me after reading a forum on this website! Now I'm still worried but my EXCITEMENT overpowers the fear. Looking and reading the stories of the SUCCESS and how GOOD they feel has helped me!!! I want to know the GOOD, BAD, and UGLY about this journey so that I can LEARN and be PREPARED! I know now I'm not the ONLY one in this life with these problems but now I have a SUPPORT GROUP that will BE THERE FOR ME!!! This is what this website is THE BEST SUPPORT GROUP ANYONE could ask for!!!!!

Hi Kristy, and welcome! First, congratulations on making the decision to go with VSG. Second, double-congrats on choosing anything but the lap-band! You'll see so many horror stories here, and people having their band removed to revise to the sleeve. This is a wonderful tool, and you're in for a whirlwind of a ride with it! Stick around, this is a great board. :)

Hey kgremmy ,

Welcome...You will find what you are looking for here. We have all the support, answers, and the love to share.

Believe me, I know the choice is not easy. It took me 2 years to really decide to move forward on this.

"Was I ready for a new me?" "Do I really want to miss all the holiday treats?" "Am I ready for this?"

A thousands doubts. But one day, a few months back, I tried to get off the couch and I was straining, graunting, trying to pull myself up.

That did it. That is the day I made the REAL decision. It's been a long journey. Kaiser makes you jump through hoops but at the end---its the best thing they could do.

So this Monday, November 1st, I will have my sleeve done.

Trust me when I say this, I will RUNNNNNN to the O.R.

I am not scared of doing this. What I am scared of is eating myself to death.

I'm ready for a new me! And it sounds like you are ready too!

Good luck in your journey...

Hello! What part of Louisiana are you from? Do you plan to have your surgery in Louisiana? I live on the Texas/Lousiana border and will be having my surgery at Christus St. Elizabeth Bariatric Center in Beaumont, TX. This site is wonderful. People are sooooo helpful. You can also watch some of the videos on youtube.com. Some are very helpful. I am due to be sleeved on November 15. I am very nervous and this pre-surgery diet is for the birds but I know I have to do this. Good luck to you.

Congratulations on getting your new sleeve! And another congratulations on deciding against the lap band. I am one of those horror stories you read about. I had band removal to sleeve revision surgery on 10/13/2010. The first few days were pretty bad for me, then all of a sudden, about 4 days after surgery, I felt great! Walking and following Doctors instructions about what to eat is what I think helped me to get better. And I found this wonderful site, at least now I know I am not alone in my journey. Good luck and welcome to a new life!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
