Loss of Energy and Balance

Recommended Posts

I am just over 4 weeks out and have lost 50 lbs. so far. SUppose to have 100-110 gr of Protein a day. Switched over to the long term vitamins/calcium the about a week and a half ago which is about the time my syptoms started. I have been very tired or rather weak feeling and a loss of balance. I was thinking it could be stress as a lot is going on right now but just not sure. Mostly getting my protein in but not the full amount everyday. Probably average about 80-100 a day. I will probably contact my Dr. today but I am not scheduled to see him again until the 8th. Just wanted to know if this was normal at this stage of the process before I "blow the whistle"..

I had that feeling much earlier on - about 10 days out. It just so happened that I had my post op right about that time as well and my doctor told me that my body wasn't doing well without carbs and sugar. Kind of a weird thing for a bariatric surgeon to say but he told me to go eat ice cream and carbs for a few days and boy, what a difference! So now I know that my body can't do well without a reasonable amount of carbs so I am not as strict with my carbs as most probably are. He explained that some people's bodies just don't fare well without the carbs. I thought it was strange but when I added carbs back in to my diet it made a huge difference. I was at the point that I could barely walk and had no sense of balance at all.

I would definitely check in with your doc :-)

I'm 10 days post-op today and I feel like I just hit a WALL. I. am. so. tired. I'm sleeping good, getting all my protien and liquids in, but I just have such FATIGUE. I know I'm still in recovery. I started logging my food yesterday because I started mushies and when you look at how few calories you are taking in, it all sort of makes sense. I know this is temporary, but it is just hard going.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
