Things that the Dr.'s didn't tell us!!!

Recommended Posts

I don't know about anyone else, but I have experience some things with the new me that I did not expect!!! I was never told that the high Protein diet will give you constipation:blushing: (TMI I know) which can lead to hemorrhoids:blushing: (which is an experience all in its self if you have never had them!), your feet loose weight which makes all of your shoes loose:thumbdown:, and your rings start to fall off:mad0:...

Anyone else have any surprise outcomes???

But I wouldn't change it for the world!

All those things are true, so what?

Rude much??

Ambryant, I with ya on all three counts LOL. I just had to take the ring off my right hand because it was spending 99% of its time spun upside down, and wanting to slip off, and the only thing holding my wedding/engagement rings on is the fact that there are three of them, so they sit a little (but only slightly!) tighter on my finger... won't be long before I have to take them off too, the top one almost slid over my knuckle as I was rinsing soap off my hands last night. As far as the shoes go, I LOVE it! I have very wide feet anyway (like 2E) and I'm thrilled to be fitting into some just regular Wide shoes that I can grab off a shelf for the first time in a long time. I've been ordering all my shoes online for several years now. And the Constipation issue... well, my best advice is to take a stool softener capsule once or twice a day and make sure you're getting all your Water in. That generally does the trick for me and keeps it from becoming an issue... if I forget for a few days, whoa baby!! Yikes!

I love it, at last I can wear my wedding ring again! And yep the Constipation is terrible, I have to take something every day for that, wouldn't change anything either!

I wear a size 12 shoe and a size 11 ring! I cant wait to have those numbers go down a bit.

I may have to give some jewelry away, or perhaps sell it and get some new pieces!

With the shoe size, is it just the width or also the length that goes down? I was just complaining to my boyfriend a few months ago that I seem to have gently progressed from size 9-9.5 to size 10 in shoes. I'm 25 and haven't grown vertically since I was 11 or 12, so I speculated that it was due to weight gain. I can barely squeeze my feet into a 9 these days, and only a few years ago I regularly wore size 9s. I'm also not that tall, so size 10 is really large.

I think a lot of people do lose a size, or a half-size in length, but I've gotta believe that's more because they don't have to go bigger to get that extra width. I've been in 7 1/2s for years (was a 6 1/2 in high school) but have been trying on and fitting into a lot of 7s lately.

Don't forget rings can be resized. Doesn't cost much. I'm waiting until I hit goal though. Just won't wear them for awhile. Not married so no wedding ring problem. I'd probably get it resized as I lose weight.

Hey,

I love the fact that my rings are looser, a NSV for sure, especially as I can now wear my engagement ring and wedding ring together!! I am also loving the shoe thing... and in particular wearing heals in work ... I am also looking forward to getting a nice pair of high leg boots where I can do the zip up...lol

I think the docs are more interested in the health side of things but ladies, the rest is a real bonus and boost isn't it!!!!

What do you take? I hate to keep taking a laxative. I put Fiber in my Protein Drinks but it doesn't seem to be enough.

What do you take? I hate to keep taking a laxative. I put fiber in my Protein drinks but it doesn't seem to be enough.

The Minimum RDA for fiber grams is 18g per day. It is something you need constantly and daily to keep things moving. We also need to make sure we are getting all the 64 oz of Water too. Keeps things "moving" properly.

I know many here are on extremely low carbs but there's no way I'll give up my fiber in detriment for using the bathroom properly. I need to make sure I'm ridding myself of waste! LOL Maybe TMI, but is a normal function! So I try to make sure any carbs I do eat are stocked with fiber. You can still do low carb/hi fiber.

I'm starting to get into my purees and mushies from time to time. I'm taking it really slow and feeling so much better right now. But I'm also noticing I'm not flowing right. I think it's time to start making sure I'm getting all my fiber!

As for the rings, I went from an 8 to a current 6 right now. My rings were literally falling off. My husband bought me a beautiful new diamond ring in size 6 for our last Anniversary and is being used to hold in my other rings. As I continue to lose I will eventually just have them sized. Just not ready to do that yet as I still need to lose 100 lbs.

I would have my VSG again in a heartbeat.... it has truley cahnged my life!!!!!

that being said..... I have stomach acid now. Something I NEVER had before. I take my omeprazole and its no big deal.... but that is the ONLY negative I can think of.

(sometimes I wish I could stuff myself on nachos, sour cream, margaritas etc. and I can't.... but thats kind of the point right?)

My NUT has emphasized the fiber aspect, and her choice is benefiber powder. She said don't do the pills, just do the powder. So I guess I can't say I haven't been warned.

Just an little note. The doc suggested that I wait until about six months after I quit losing weight and inches before making any changes . I guess once we stop losing, there is a bit of fluctuation. If you size down a ring, it gets thinner if you have to size up. Skin also changes for up to six months after all the loss.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
