My name is Josette and I'm 31. I live in Lansing Michigan and I've been married a year and a half. We have no children yet due to this pesky PCOS. At the moment we have 2 dogs whom I love beyond words. One is a pure bred german shepherd named Liberty and the other is half german shepherd and half yellow lab named Mason. I also have a huge black cat named L'Roar (don't ask) that was my mom's cat and ended up being mine. He's been a great comfort to me since she passed away. I've been pretty devasted without her for the past 7 months and I'm hoping getting this band and losing some weight will give me a whole new positive outlook on life. I'm looking forward to it.

I'm having my surgery done at the LapBand Center of Michigan in Port Huron. There are two doctors and they only do lapband and they have over 3000 surgeries combined under their belts. I have my consult with Dr. Boutt this coming Thursday June 15th and at that meeting I get to schedule the date for my surgery. YAY!

I'm currently around 385 and I'm 6'1". I think I'll leave it at that for now.

I'm so glad to meet you all! :clap2:

I am 31 and live in Vancouver, WA. I have been married to a wondeful man for 7 years. I have a 2.5 year old boy/daredevil who gives me gray hair daily. Then again so does my DH!! We have one dog. She is a scottie poo (with a little too much poo) and her name is Ebony.

I have yet to be banded, but I have narrowed my search down to Dr. Joya in PV. No date yet because I have to see if I can get financed somewhere. I am very anxious and excited to get my band ASAP so I can get started on my new life. :heh:

We do not own our own home but would love too. Housing is getting very expensive in Vancouver and Portland.

Josette, we seem to be about the same when it comes to weight loss. I am 6 feet tall and currently weigh 430. Where did you find out what you ideal weight is? I certainly don't believe that I shoudl weight 150!! :D

This thread is a great idea! Nice to meet ya'll!!

Amy

Hi 30 somethings.

I'm Julie, from Alabama but living in Yankee-land (NYC), as my family calls it. I'm a lawyer, single (except for a recurring relationship that springs anew every few months), 33 years old, no children (yet). I was banded in April by Dr. Fielding at NYU. I'm down 33 lbs to date and glad to finally have what I hope will be a good fill.

I get to the gym pretty often and meet with a trainer a couple of times a week to make sure I go. My pre-band downfalls were ordering food instead of preparing healthy things. Mexican food is the enimy!

Lastly, I'm vegetarian, if anyone is interested in sharing veggie ideas, particularly getting in enough Protein.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
