My situation

Recommended Posts

Thanks everyone.

Of course I continue to be stuck in the body I don't want as I have no other choice. Our relationship has improved as I no longer tell him anything. Nothing said equals no problem. So as long as I can keep a smile on my face all is well.

Yesterday we got what we were expecting, a job transfer from Texas to Washington State. So in 6 weeks I will be living in an apartment that I have yet to see in a new state I've only visited once. Our extended family will continue of course to live in Texas so we are on our own. I hope the sense of something new and adventure will keep me distracted from the reality of my situation and the body I do not want.

And LittleSteve please have the respect for yourself not to make yourself out to be an ass in front of everyone because that's exactly how you are coming across.

Hi Carrie! I hope you will continue to confide in someone, although you may not choose here or your husband. I think it's important to tell at least one person who supports you unconditionally how you truly feel about things.

I am concerned that you are in a depression state. Washington is a very rainy state, and you're coming in the Fall, so the weather will be overcast. Wait, I'm assuming you'll be in the western part of the state? Anyway, I hope you talk to a doctor about how you are feeling. You sound almost suicidal. And angry. And hopeless feeling. That's a rotten place to be.

Sending you a mental hug.

Carrie, I am very much praying for you and your family. I would like to echo that you really need to talk to someone professionally. With your current feelings post op, and the upcoming move, that is a lot of big issues to tackle at once when you are not feeling on top of your game. It sounds like this is a major depressive state and just keeping a smile on your face will probably not be enough to weather through this, get help for your children if nothing else. Many hugs to you, from another person who had much depression and complications following surgery.

Hi Carrie,

I can only imagine what you're going through, and try to offer you as much encouragement as possible. And while I can't change your mind about your surgery, perhaps I can offer something positive for you to look forward to:

I live in Washington state, and I would be happy to try and help you and your family transition up here at this difficult time. If you need information about anything, or if I can "grease the skids" any for you from this end, I'd be happy to do so. It really is a very nice place to live. Send me a PM if I can help in some way. There are many friends waiting for you to meet here. You just don't know us yet. :)

Best,

Dave

Thanks, we rented a place in Redmond. I have been to Seattle but not Redmond specifically. We made sure to get a place with an indoor pool, indoor basketball court and fitness room to hopefully make rainy days easier with the kids.

I made the mistake of going to the dentist for my braces today. What a mistake. I forgot about the medical bright lights. I told my dentist the reason for my dislike of lights and closed my eyes. The bad thing is because of the move he has decided to make my visits more frequent to get as much work done as possible and allow me some time before I have to see another dentist when we get settled in Redmond.

I have an appointment coming up in the next week or so with the surgeon who did the VSG. I have decided to cancel that appointment due to the move and the fact their is nothing to be done other than saying you've lost 30 pounds. I'm not going to another Bariatric Surgeon for follow up care once we move so what's the point? I have so much to get done around here I don't see the point of wasting his time or mine.

Thanks again for all of your support.

Redmond is actually a very nice area, close to Seattle but not too close, kind of out of the way, but not too far from a whole lot of things to see and do. Schools there are very good, and there is a lot of recreation for your kids. Once you get settled in, and start checking out the area, you'll find all kinds of ways to be busy, both as an individual, and as a family. Depending on which direction you drive, within just an hour or two you can go snow skiing, boating, walk on an ocean beach, visit Canada, see Mount St. Helens, go hiking, camping, fishing, see sports events, live theater, music concerts - the list is endless, and bound only by your imagination. And if you like to shop, there are a TON of outstanding shopping areas and malls in and around the Redmond area. You're going to have a great time up here!

Carrie,

I have read all of your threads. Everything I am about to say is meant in the kindest way. Seriously, at this point it doesn't matter if you wanted the surgery or not. Your focus need to be on:

- getting healthy

- finding a way to deal with your emotions so you can deal with day to day life

- making sure your home is a safe and loving environment

You need to do these things for you but, most importantly for your children. Best of luck.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
