inconsistent weight loss ... anyone else? (again)

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow sleevers...

Just thought I would put this out there to see if any one has been in the same or similar position...

I am nearly 9 weeks post op and I feel great. The healing process for me was ok and I had no issues at all!!

My weight loss is good and I am not complaining (honest) in fact, I can honestly say that I have never lost 29lb in 9 weeks before, in my life, EVER!!!

However, my weight loss is sooooo inconsistent and I am really frustrated by this, I had a stall from 2 1/2 weeks to around week 5 and then I lost a few pounds and then nothing again...!!!!

Has anyone else experienced this; I was sorta hoping that I would lose a steady amount weekly (that sounds a little self assured and it isn't meant to be) as this is what I was lead to believe by my surgeon!

x

NB I posted this in the wrong place the first time, so sorry if you have read this twice...lol

Any words of wisdom or advise would be greatly received...

xx

Ha, make that the three of us! I stalled from week 3 to 6 and then lost almost 3 pounds in less than 2 days, so I have no idea what's going on.

Me, too. I just had to start to accept that my body is going to lose at it's own pace. I certainly didn't gain weight at a regular pace, so it's not surprising I'm losing it sporadically, too.

I was losing one to two pounds a day, then nothing, then half a pound a day, then nothing for a while, then a pound a day for a few days before the scale stalled out again. I just broke a 2 week stall and was down 1.6 pounds since last week.

I had to make my husband hide my scale and only bring it out on weigh-in days, because the inconsistent loss was making me a crazy woman. I'd get on the scale first thing and if I didn't see any loss (or heaven forbid, if I went up a few ounces!), I was in a horrible mood all day long.

It's not easy when you read about other folks that are losing at a much faster rate, but the fact is, we're still losing. We'll have to settle for that even though it's frustrating.

Good luck!

~Cheri

At my 2 month I stalled for few weeks and now again at 4 months I have only seen the scale move a few pounds. I dont let it bother me I just keep doing what Im doing. I am losing just very slowly!!

I am being driven insane by the scale. This morning, magically, 290.6 after a week of fluctuation between 292 and 293.6. Will it stay down tomorrow? Arrgghh! If I could scream without scaring the neighbors, I would.

Add me to your list! I lost 22 pounds the first 3 weeks and I've been on a stall since (I'm 5 weeks out) I haven't weighed myself for the past 2 weeks because I'll just be disappointed, so I'm following my hubbys suggestion of not weighing myself til my appointment on the 23rd. It's not that hard as I don't have scales that work properly anyway. It's reassuring to hear that I'm not the only one in this situation, good luck to you all!

Coops,

I think losing in fits and starts is the rule rather than the exception. This is why I try to weigh just once a month. It's hard sometimes---we all have the temptation to step on the scale just to check. For me that spells obsession and discouragement. I just follow my diet and exercise plan and get on the scale around the first of each month.

thanks for your input everyone, it does help to know that I am not alone, and it is encouraging rather than discouraging to hear other people's point of view... and for fear of sounding cheesy (low carbs!!) I don't feel so alone now... big hugs x

WOW...OMG... I am on that list fer sure..... I have only lost 1 (one) pound this past month(august) I have been at stall all month .. It could have been a # of different "Stressors""... So much happen this summer with me and, My kids were here ALL summer constantly bugging me:sad0: I am so happy they are back in school , now I can focus on my work out routine and better eating choices.:) Well I know that I could have done better last month with my diet ... I know that this is a tool not a magic bullet. Watch out for the "slider" foods ... they can backfire. I havent gained any weight and I havent lost but 1 lb :) .... My clothes are fitting better and sometimes too big... well thank you for posting and I got to focus and stay REAL ...

JaneJ gave me encouragement when I was in a long stall... she said maybe I wasn't eating enough, so next day, I increased my intake (of 'good' foods of course!) and what do you know? My stall broke a couple of days later! I find if I eat more one day, I eat less the next, so it probably evens out... I feel as if I need to trick my metabolism!

Hello all...

well on the 'offical' weigh day today (I do weigh more through the week, but I have chosen Sat as my offical day!!) and I am down a pound... I know it is better than nothing, but after so little food I feel a little bit disappointed... but it is better than no movement at all! I think I am going to have to up the old exercise this week and see what happens next week!!

Good luck to all us inconsisitent losers...lol xx

Judy,

JaneJ sent me some really useful info too, stuff that I hadn't rec'd from my surgeon... she is a star isn't she!

I have to be honest, I love this site, there are sooo many good people with kind words and helpful advise that generally gets me through the rough times! x

I have been in a three week stall and wondering about it myself. I do, however, think that I am losing waist line, so I'm keeping a tape measure in the bedroom to check. I feel much stronger now that I'm walking and working more. I am over the post-op weakness that plagued me earlier. I am comfortable with my diet - 12 to 16 oz. of high Protein foods and a Protein Shake a day. I feel that I should drink more Water to kick the weight loss elves into production. We will see.

Hiya Number50,

I was in a simialr position to you at your stage, I am only 9 weeks post op now and since the initial 2 1/2 weeks lose it has been really up and down and slow. I try to drink plenty of Water as well as cups of tea and Decaf coffee... not sure how the liquid thing works!

keep going and I would imagine that you will start to lose again very soon...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
