Hello all from beautiful Rockville, Maryland!

I was "sleeved" August 4, 2010 and I am having a hard time with my mind catching up to my body; realizing my limitations. I healed beautifully! In fact, I felt so great that I did not follow the doctor's orders. I was suppose to follow the liquid diet for 3 weeks and today was the day to officially transition to soft foods. I've experimented and tried various foods since week one - August 11.

My major problem is that I do not like nor can I stomach the foods that I am suppose to eat. Cannot drink or smell another Protein Shake, Jello or broth. Cannot stomach cheese or diary products - lactose intolerant. And this leads to experimentation. Consequently, I am eating and drinking too many carbs. Additionally, I am hungry! More hungry than I have ever been in my life! Although my doctor tells me that the hunger is in my head; I disagree.

Below is my typical diet. It lacks variety and flavor. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

My Breakfast -

veggie burger, chicken breast, turkey breast or sliced deli ham

lunch -

Wendy's chili or chicken breast, turkey breast or sliced deli ham

dinner -

panara Soup, chili, veggie burger, chicken breast, turkey breast or sliced deli ham

Thank you!!

Jeaneen

i ate a lot of eggs, egg salad, chicken salad, loved turkey chili, turkey meatballs and turkey spaghetti minus the noodles, i had a friend who made me a lot of different types of Soups that i put in my magic bullet. Then finally went on to eat pretty much anything i wanted so just think of this as a transition time until you can eat whatever, just try to remember Protein first, fish is good too, and meatloaf, turkey or beef, experiment, enjoy, good luck jeani

I detest eggs and am lactose intolerance. I think I will just have to experiment more. According to the nutritionist, I am now, after 5 weeks, where most patients are in one year. I feel slightly bummed that I never had the honeymoon that most experience with the lose of appetite. Thanks much for the input and words of encouragement!

First of all, welcome aboard! Secondly, tough love. FOLLOW THE SURGEONS ADVICE! It sucks those first few weeks, we have all been there and none of us enjoyed it, but following the food stages allows your tender tummy and suture line to heal. I promise that soon that part will be a distant memory and you will be able to enjoy foods you enjoy again. You may need to get creative, and even try foods you didn't like in the past again. Taste buds change post op. Also maybe look into lactaid or another medication that might allow you to enjoy dairy products?

Also! Are you taking a PPI. There is a weird phenomenon that on the boards is known as false hunger. It isn't like the hunger you used to feel, but like these distant rumbly feelings that are strange but that we associate with hunger, but are actually related to increased acid in your stomach. My surgeon (dunno what yours recommends) that you are on a PPI for the first 3 months minimum to ensure that the increased acid doesn't harm your sleeve line and it really does cut back on that weird feeling!

Good luck to you Jeaneen and keep on posting.

Anna

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
