April - They have a term for us with a lower BMI called "lightweights". Makes me laugh every time I hear that since I felt like a beached whale!!!

But, this surgery has really given me a second chance at life. Not sure what part of WA you are from, but there are quite a few of us Washingtonians out here. Feel free to ask for any advice you need. And, PM me if you'd like to talk on the phone, etc.

I agree with the idea of taking your husband with you to a seminar - they are very eye opening for those who have never struggled with their weight. ESPECIALLY when they hear of the dangers of continued excess weight.

Best of luck to you!

Hi mini-me! Lightweight. hehe. only in a weight loss forum, huh? LOL

I'm in Vancouver so have been looking both here and in Portland. I am leaning toward Legacy in Portland (Dr Halpin).

Yes, i'm looking for my 2nd life. I'm tired of waiting around for the 'when I lose weight...' stories. I'm not getting any younger as they say.. Crossing fingers I can move rather quickly in this Quest.. I'm on a time-frame w/school and don't want to wait too long for it to be done. i hate waiting! haha

April, I used to have sleep apnea also. I HATED sleeping with a C-PAP machine - SOO SEXY, huh?? I was able to get off of it after getting a lapband and losing around 40/lbs. No more meds for high triglycerides or depression either.

Losing this excess weight is the best thing you can do for your health, and WLS is a great tool. Wish the sleeve had been around when I had the band, but I'm happy now that the band is gone and I can live life fully again. Tell your hubby you'll be a "cheap date" once this is all said and done and eating such small portions - ha!

Good luck with your insurance!

It's nice to have you here April. I had a revision from Lap Band to sleeve about 6 days ago. The members of this forum are awesome and very supportive. They are also full of wonderful information from someone who has been there done that.

Best of luck to you!

Thanks everyone! I sat my husband down and spoke w/him last night. I was so scared and i think it made him nervous because he thought something was seriously WRONG with me. It went way better than expected. He is not too concerned about the surgery per se as much as I thought he would be. He almost looked as though he wanted to cry, and i think it was out of sadness that i was feeling I had to 'go this route.' He understood everything and said he's more than willing to go to the dr appts, etc.. whatever i needed. He was so supportive and made me feel more loved than ever... esp since i have put up a wall since gaining all this weight.

He said he wants me to be 'me again' which is what I SOOO want. I always felt that after i gained all this weight (I was 115 on our wedding day) that he got the short end of the stick.

Thanks to everyone for your support here! I feel so much better being able to open up here and with my husband now about this that I can 'move forward' with confidence!

That is SOOOO wonderful. Glad to hear that he is so supportive and willing to go on the journey with you.

Isn't it funny how we can work ourselves all up & the outcome is so much better than we expect!

Keep us updated on your progress.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
