Introducing myself... :)

Hello,

My name is April and I stumbled upon this site after hearing about someone who had the VSG. I honestly never thought about WLS as an option for me (I have always hovered around a BMI between 30-35) , but the reality hit when i was recently diagnosed with moderate obstructive sleep apnea. Suddenly the list of comorbidities started piling up and I figured enough's enough. I have been heavy my whole life despite being active, who am I kidding? I need something beyond my own willpower to help me lose the weight once and for all.

I am a nursing student...and even moreso I want the weight gone. How embarrassing to preach 'health' when i'm fat.

I've been lurking for awhile, reading everyone's stories... and it inspires me to move forward. I will try the insurance route first, but have my Mx back-ups. I will not let this beat me! :)

I'm excited to chat with you all more! :)

Good luck April, there are lots more people with your sort of BMI going for the VSG and i reckon it's a very good idea.

Hi April, and welcome!

My BMI is at around 38 and my surgeon had no qualms whatsoever about going ahead. From what I've seen this procedure has great results on lower BMI patients.

Best of luck whatever you decide! xx

April, I wish I could of had the surgery when I had a lower BMI, but back in those days they did not perform WLS, none that I knew about anyway. Good luck on your journey, and welcome to a wonderful support system.

Welcome, and next thing you know you'll be here giving advice to the newbies! Good luck!

Hi April! Welcome to VST. So glad you found us! Feel free to PM if you have any pre-op questions. (my surgery date is 9/17, so I'll be able to answer post-op questions soon)

Hi April, you and I are in the same boat BMI wise. I am scheduled for surgery on the 13th. Just started the two week liquid adventure haha. :D

Thanks guys for the support! My husband get home tonight from a trip and since he's been gone all this came about. He'll never leave me for a week again...who knows what other things i come up with while he's not around. hehe

it's been a week for me to get used to the thought of WLS... i'll need to figure out a way to broach the subject with him (he's never been fat and thinks i just need to exercise more to keep it off. simple for a man who just skips dinner 3 nights and can lose 10 lbs). ugh..

I'm glad i found this board! :)

Take your husband with you to an information session on WLS. He will have a chance to ask the surgeon questions. :)

Good idea! Thanks! :biggrin0:

my husband was the one who first started researching WLS... I was not sure about it. I went to an information session with him and the rest is history. :)

Welcome aboard April. VST is truly awesome. Don't forget your hubby might be interesed in viewing this forum too. Just about any question you may have there's someone with the answer.:)

I am 2 weeks post-op and so far I love my sleeve. Good luck.

Deb
