You guys are great! I haven't been banded yet, still working on it. But as usual, you have given my some good ideas. I told my husband at the outset that I did not want to tell anyone for the reasons a lot of you have outlined already. But also, as obese people we are judged and categorized because of our weight and this is stupid. I just want to be known for who I really am not just for what I weigh. Don't get me wrong, I know my weight is a big part of who I am and has colored many of my life's choices but that is nobody's business but mine and that is the way I want to keep it. Not sure who said it but it goes something like this, obesity is a very public vice. I am looking forward to being anonymous.

I told everyone. I was so excited that I had gotten the lapband. Everyone was such a big support in my weight loss.

For what it's worth,

I told my sister and my grown son who lives with me and one friend sworn to secrecy. I didn't tell my grown daughter!

I didn't even tell my mother (also lives with me)- who has terminal cancer and has Alzheimer's - partly because I didn't want to worry her and partly because she could tell the mail man if she happens to see him in front of the house - she can't be held responsible for anything she says - but things do play on her mind and she does tend to obsess about things.

She did realize that something was going on after I came home on friday and she was curious - and she has noticed that I have lost weight and that I am not eating much - even though I sit at the table with whatever I am having - so today I told her I had gall bladder surgery (just a small white lie - to protect her) and that I had a sore tummy and that I hadn't told her because I didn't want to worry her. She was worried I was getting too weak from not eating enough - I told her this surgery would affect everything I eat for the rest of my life (the truth) and that it will be a try and see kind of thing - to determine what I can and can not have! That explanation seems to have satisfied her and now she won't be telling her friend in timbucktoo - that her daughter had her stomach stapled!!!

So - when I am ready to share I will - until then - I am just on a very strict regimen diet - testing my limits!

I am having surgery June 27th and have told almost everyone. I have two sons that are age 7 & 9. They are momma's boys BIG TIME and I don't want them to worry. My husband an I are going to Mexico for the surgery right after our anniversary so we have told them Mommy and Daddy are going away for some time alone.

I might end up telling them as they would probably get mad if they find out what really happened. It will be hard to keep it quiet when I come home with gas pains and don't eat food for a couple of weeks.

I know what you mean. I told my girls ( 25 & 28 ) only after my surgery only bc it was m grandson b-day party that I had had herina surgery. I had to tell them something as to why I could not pick up my babys. There are 4 of them. 4 & 3 years, and 5 & 6 mon. They were very upset that I had not told them I had any surgery. I was not thinking about his b-day being 2 days after my surgery. We are going out to eat for the first time with my brother & his wife. I am worry about being able to eat. I am thinking about trying chicken. And salad. I will be starting my 4th week. What do you guys think? :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

I did not want anyone to know about it but my mom who had it with me shouts it to the roof tops and I did not have a choice, IT is hard I have people asking me all the time have you lost weight and yes I was really heavy but give me a break! It's like walking up to someone and saying are you pregnant?? I just think that it is so rude... or they say how much have you lost( it pisses me off especially skinny people) I always say 10 pounds and then if I am with my mom she blurts out NO 50 lbs but I do not mind sharing with some people but please I do not want to loose 100 lbs and have people asking if I have lost any weight or have then saying well she must have weighed @$#^&*^#&@% that is so shocking or whatever!

These are interesting stats. The majority tend to either tell everyone or tell a select few, with the rest falling in between. I love polls where you can get real data! Thanks to everyone who answered/answers this.

I have chosen not to tell anyone except my husband about my up comming surger. There have been several other woman at work that have gotten the band or have had RNY and I have seen them asked the daily questions about how much weight they have lost. I have also heard all the other talk that goes on behide their backs. There are a lot of "face fiendly" people at work and I just refuse to contribute to it.

I told only my husband. My daughter, 15, figured it out-left my computer sceen open. My colleagues at work-two asked me outright (from the Protein shake). I lied-one I told-"none of your business", the other-"fibroids".

I am lower bmi. I did not want to argue with people. I also have seen people's struggles here-there is no magic wand or band. Therefore, if it does not work for me-it is my private issue-with the support of this forum. I don't want to discuss it with the hoi polloi.

Having said that-if I am fabulously successful and a fat person asks me genuinely-how did you do it? -I may just tell them-success is to be shared with people looking for real solutions.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
