Totally feel you on this one!! He was telling me all sorts of bizarre things like maybe the lady that wasn't happy with her surgery had complications because she was a smaller BMI and the tissue of her stomach was different because the tools are meant for larger stomachs and thicker tissue. It was so weird and then it just made me hella angry because I may not be a surgeon but I have done my research and it sounded like a bunch of B.S. to me.

Thanks so much for the support, like I said, I am calling tomorrow and I will just be pretty vague so I can get a call back. ;)

Lol! He told ME that because I've never had a baby and I'm still in my 20's, my abdomen hasn't been stretched and therefore the internal abdominal pressure during surgery would be too dangerous. WTF? No one else has ever heard of anything like that.

When I called Richmond, no one answered so I left a message with my name, medical record number, requested that the transfer me to SSF. I gave them my number and said it was ok to leave a message on that phone. A week later someone called and left a message saying "This is Richmond, I have a note that you called, I don't know why but call us back and hopefully we can figure out what you called for". Why? Every time I call Richmond I seem to get the voicemail. I'm so glad to be done with them, even if that meant I had to go to orientation agan, psych eval again, and drive extra. Good luck to you!

LOL - OMG!! That is nuts. I am so glad I am not the only one because for a second I felt like I was taking crazy pills the way he was talking down to me.

I haven't had any of my other appointments but I had to wait a whole month to finally get an appointment in Vacaville with him so that kinda sucks but I am being patient. I am 30 and have never had children so that's interesting he didn't say the same thing and was more focused on how "well" I carry my weight. Whatever. Thank you for wishing me luck - hopefully it will go smooth and I can get the ball rolling again at SSF quickly. You all are the best - I feel waaay better!! :D

I made it through my surgery. I got released form the hospital on Tuesday morning. I was in a lot of pain Tuesday night but things have been slowly improving. It hurts really bad when I cough but I know that coughing helps get rid of the junk inside me. I have been walking and sipping a lot. It is hard to find a comfortable position to sleep in. Laying on my back hurts, because it stretches my tummy out, and laying on my sides I can only do for a little bit. I am using almost every pillow in the house to be comfortable sitting in a chair in our living room. I still cant believe that I went through this. I am not hungry at all and have not had any bouts of nasuea since monday night. I did weigh myself in the hospital after surgery, even though they say not to. I gained 10 pounds! Since then I have lost 8 of those pounds. It is crazy. My doctor took pictures of my old stomach, my new stomach and my gallbladder. I have to admit that my new tummy is pretty cute! I have also been taking the pain meds regularly. So if my post seems like a lot of rambling we can just blame it on the drugs. I just wanted to check in with you all to let you know how I am doing, gonna go nap so more. Seems like I am napping the days away!

Many of my post-op friends recommend sleeping in a recliner for the first few days. I plan on borrowing one from my parents when its my time!

I'm glad to hear you are doing well!

Yes, sleeping in the chair has been a lifesaver! I would recommend it for sure!

Yes my mom is having surgery at Richmond. She is going to have the gastric bypass though. I am doing better each and every day. Walking and sipping helps a lot. I had some pudding today and so far no problems. I am still taking the pain meds and they help a lot with the pain and discomfort. I was able to get in my 20 ounces of Water yesterday. Today I am suposed to be trying to get in 64 ounces. Not sure if that is going to happen. But im not dehydrated so thats a good thing!

When did you start taking your Vitamins after surgery? I thought that I was suposed to start taking them right after, they are all chewable, but then I read something that said wait 2 weeks after surgery. Any ideas? I don't want to over do it with my tummy but if I am suposed to be taking them then I want to follow the program. Thanks!

I was told to start Vitamins, b1 and B12 the day of discharge. I had to hold off on the Calcium and Iron until I went back for the post-op visit and he gave me the go ahead on those two also. I know it will get to be more of a habit, but right now it feels like all I do is taking pills. And funny thing is, after I take them, I have to wait to eat anything because I am too full! Weird.

I take my mutivitamin once a day, my Calcium 3 times a day and a B12 once a day. The muti Vitamin and the b12 went down fine but when I went to take the calcium it made my tummy gurgle and have a lot more gas. I was worried that I wasn't suposed to take anything. Whew I feel much better. Thanks for the quick responses!

I'm super excited. I went to see Dr. Le today in South San Fran for my pre op appt and to sign consent forms. I actually lost another 1/2 lb. He told me it wasn't necessary for me to go on a liquid fast for 2 weeks. If I want to replace a meal with a Protein shake, then that's fine.

I go in on the 28th and meet with Dr. Rainville, the anesthesiologist. And then go to the pre op class. Last night I went to a support group discussion at Kaiser in Santa Rosa. There was a girl there that just had the sleeve done in Mexico 5 days ago and another 5 months ago in SSF with Dr. Le. I was so glad I went to that group last night. So glad to have talked to Dr. Le today too. He put my mind at ease and even told me a funny story to keep in mind. I told him I'm afraid of waking up freaking out. Like super anxious. He told me they'd take good care of me.

So I'm happy and content with my decision. We were at the mall tonight and I think I'm gonna get a Build A Bear surgery bear. She's pink and very cute.

I'm glad to get the support here from you guys.

Amber, good job getting through it so far. No leaks?

Stacey how have you been?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
