Average monthly weight loss?

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of preparing for the Sleeve, very excited, however I do have a concern . Reading over a few post the average monthly weight loss is about 20-25lbs a month, now with loosing that much weight in that short of a time I am sure the skin is not as forgiving, so can the folks that have been successful with their weight loss please share their experience with the skin issues , the good and the bad, I am so afraid of the saggy arms skin. Currently I am doing lots of tricep/bicep work to keep the skin tight but just wondering whats gonna happen when the weight comes off really fast?

Thanks Nina

LOL but the weight loss for me has been crazy , at first I lost 24 lbs in 5 days the it kept falling off until now , because I am at a stall . but its been 11 weeks now and i've lost 37-39 lbs . It keeps going up and down now. I'm trying so hard to break this stall .. but everyone has different results so just pray and thank God you are on your way to freedom. its the best surgery i had done..

oh yeah about the skin, if you have not carried it for many , many years , then it should come off without hanging, I also work my arms daily and I can honestly say I can see the muscle indent wanting to shine thru, lol, but I am kinda worried about my stomach skin hanging everywhere. I think I will need a Tummy Tuck when all the weight has gone. Again everyone is very different so the results will also be different. so get ready for an awesome ride. I only carried the big frame since 2006 when I gave birth to my daughter. I am praying that I wont have the skin hanging problem.

I averaged 20lbs a months the first 4 months, and honestly my skin isn't that bad. I have it, but I don't think it's any worse than the huge fat rolls I had pre-op.

I do have saggy arms, wrinkly skin on my stomach, inner thighs, the boobs are gone, but it isn't like I have flaps of skin everywhere. I lost 113lbs in 6.5 months and a total of 141-143lbs in around 11 months. Every month my skin looks better. I moisturize every day, I exfoliate weekly with a homemade sugar/salt scrub, and I do not wear shapers, girdles, or anything of the sorts. My arms are pretty wrinkly, and I hate them, but I hated them when I was fat. I also hate armpits so even if my arms weren't saggy/wrinkly, you wouldn't catch me wearing sleeveless.

My neighbor had RNY 6 years ago, lost 170ish pounds, and her arms look normal. She didn't do a lot of arm working out, the skin just rebounded. Of course, working out, and building muscle will help fill out the extra skin, but it's something that we trade in for the positives of weight loss. I think my extra/wrinkly skin is kind of like stretchmarks from childbirth, or a scar from a childhood injury. It's just a little reminder of where we've been, and how we've come.

Genetics, how long we've been obese, and our own personal bodies will determine how our skin rebounds. I was obese for over a decade so I really don't have much hope for all of my skin.

I've been noticing some "areas" that are a bit saggy but overall things are looking ok. Today is three months for me and I'm over 20lbs a month if you average it out. My problem areas are my inner thighs and my chest. Both have been huge for a very, very long time so I'm not surprised. I agree with Tiffy, I've been looking at it as a battle wound, except this is a battle I'm winning!

Thanks You guys, I love this SIte soo much It helps ease my fears and worries and without it I think I would have chickened out so long ago!! I am so excited and cant wait for my journey to begin, I cancelled my surgery date for the Lapband which was to be done on June 18, my surgeon was very upset about my decision and despite me giving sufficient notice, 3weeks his office issued me a bill foe 350.00 for cancelling. But in a happier note I am scheduled to see my new Surgeon on June 21st for the Sleeve. I am soo excited.

Oh yeah, about my initial concern with the skin, Tiff you made a very good point, It has a lot to do with genetics, I gave birth to 9 children, triplets 3 years ago and didnt get any stretch marks with any of my children, starting out at 135lbs now weighing 265, cant weight to start my new journey to a healthier life.

The stretch marks are my issue, if not for those my skin would be rebounding. If I feel I can't live with the skin on my inner thighs and arms after losing all of my weight then I will just save up for one more procedure.

Wow Ninaboo, I have had three children, twins and a single and i had stretch marks from my boobs to my knees! Awesome for you!!! Some of us are not so lucky!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
