Why do I keep throwing up :-(

Recommended Posts

OMG! I throw up or at least foam pretty bad about 3 maybe 4 times a week. I'm about three and a half months out and sometimes I don't have a grip on how much to consume before enough is enough and then I end up throwing up what couldn't fit in there. Should this still be a problem after three months or am I still "early" out enough for this sort of thing....? It's so painful to say the least....

I have had it happen to me, only once. It's awful. I make sure that I do not over eat. I know my stomach can hand 3 or 4 oz. but i only go to the 3oz to be sure. Measure the correct amounts in a measureing cup, and then see how it fills your bowls and plates. I use a salad plate and never have it more than half full. hope that helps.

I haven't vomited - have been too full before tho and that was bad enough.

Eat slower, eat less - that's all I can offer. Like Immore said, measure it out. It is hard for me to leave the last couple of bites sometimes, but I am getting used to it.

I also drink a little when I eat sometimes, so really need to take it slow.

Did you have any digestive issues before surgery?

I hope it gets better!

I think one problem we tend to have is that before surgery, may of us didn't have that "I'm full" or "I'm satisfied, don't need any more" signal, and we only knew we were done when we couldn't stuff any more food in. I know I have to consciously think about how I feel when eating in order to stop when I should (if I haven't measured my food), otherwise I'll keep eating until I'm at capacity, which is not a good thing.

I haven't vomited because of eating too much, although I have because of eating too fast, but not for the last couple of months. Do follow the suggestion to measure your food out first, recognize that even if you're not totally stuffed when you're done, you're also not hungry any more, and see if that helps you out. Good luck! :o

Thank you guys! Sometimes I really truly forget that I don't have a normal tummy anymore until it's too late. Like I literally forget that I have had surgery and have certain guidelines and I just start stuffing my face and before I know it I have eaten too fast and too much  especially meat...it's terrible I know...I guess I have gotten too comfortable and need to remind myself to take it slow...

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
