I'm confused. Is there restriction in the post-op but prefill stage? I am five weeks post-op -- my first fill will be tomorrow -- and I have not experienced any feeling of restriction or of being full. Unlike tellymelly, I have never had a PB. Yes, I have lost 32 lbs., but I attribute my entire weight loss to will-power: I have followed the dietary guidelines to the letter. At this point, I don't yet feel any help from my unfilled band. Am I supposed to? I feel like I always feel on rigid diets, that I'm in a state of semi-starvation. Am I hungry? I honestly don't know. I've lived so long as an overeater that I'm not sure that I can identify hungry and full.

I am with Cashley on this. I have absolutely no restriction since being banded on April 28th. I have not lost anything since going off of liquids. I am ok with this for two reasons. One being I knew after spending so much time on these boards there was a good possibility I may not see any significant loss until I have my first fill. Two being I have not gained, and prior to my band, I was gaining anywhere from .25 to .50 pounds per week. So I consider the fact that I have not gained a victory in itself. However, I go for my first fill on Monday. While I am scared of having the fill itself, I cannot wait to start feeling the restriction I hear all of you talking about. I want to see $16,500.00 worth of results, lol!

I think it is finally safe to vote since I get my first fill tomorrow morning. I have lost 18 pounds since surgery - 34 total.

I have been up and down the same 3-4 pounds for the last 4 weeks since starting mushies. It will be good to get a little better restriction so I stay full a bit longer.

Yes, I am 10 days post op and have lost 12 lbs. I am not hungry and do not know how long it will take for my hunger to come back. I plan on fill only if I feel I need one.

Several people report major weight loss without a fill, which I'm not understanding at all. I thought the band works by providing restriction that comes from filling the band. Am I missing something? Why have surgery if you can lose weight without filling the band?

For some people (very few..) just having the band placed around their stomach provides adequate restriction and in turn their appetite is dimmed and they lose weight. This was certainly not the case for me. I was WIDE OPEN after surgery and was able to eat like pre-band. I am happy for those with automatic restriction but am pretty amazed that the band alone can provide that type of restriction. I felt nothing from my unfilled band.

I really think everyone is different. At first, 2 weeks ago I felt like I had total restriction. Now I am finding that I am able to consume more so the weight loss isn't happening. My first fill is July 17th. I think everyone is different although I must add I am a bit jealous of those who lose without a fill :-}

So - being unbanded myself - after reading all of this thread - I guess I have to ask: people who lose with no fill - for months - who lose quite a bit - is it a matter of Head Control? or do some maybe actually have restriction with just the band there? curious.........

Maurine, yes ...some people feel restriction with just the band in place. I've been banded for 2+ weeks now and I first felt restriction but now its more difficult for me to gauge my hunger/fullness. For me, I will need a fill. For others they have had restriction from the beginning. I guess it comes down to owns body. Hope this helps.

Hi All,

I have never posted before and have to admit at being "computer challenged" I got banded on June 5th and have felt restricted since. I definatly can't eat what I used to but I do start feeling hunger sooner than even a week ago. I havn't decided on a fill yet because of some complications since surgery. I'm curious how that will all work though.

After a fill do you have problems with eating and how long should you stay "full" after a meal? Thanks for posting it helps to have support on this new journey.

Lorrie

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

        That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
