Just got off a cruise

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved six weeks prior. I remember someone was asking about cruising after the sleeve, but I don't remember where the thread was. Anyway, no issues at all. I ate most of an omelet for Breakfast, lunch no issues, and dinner. I would take a couple of bites of my appetizer then try to eat as much meat as I could from my entree. I also ate part of a BLT from room service every single day. I lost 6 lbs while on the cruise ;)

Doc said I would be good as new in 6 weeks and he was absolutely correct. I feel great.

You did wonderful!! The last time I went on a cruise was before wls and I gained 8lbs!! That just shows you how well our sleeves work. Congrats on your fast healing!

LOL I think my typical gain was 8lb per day :crying: I also drank next to no alcohol. For me that is a very weird thing. Vacations are made for drinking. No desire this time though. The couple of cocktails that I did have went down realllly easily though :blushing:

I just got back from a cruise too. I gained 8 lbs and lost it all in a few days. I was worried that I would have a hard time losing it but once I got back to my eating habits, it came right off. The food was so good on the cruise and the deserts were fabulous but back to reality here!

Really? Where did you go? We sailed on the Splendor from Long Beach. Wouldn't it be funny if we were on the same cruise? LOL

That's great! I have a cruise planned for next January and am really looking forward to it.

I've noticed that the portions on cruises seem to be a lot smaller than restaurant portions -- probably because a lot of people like to get two or more different things for each course! I think that will help. That, and this whole magical thing about being able to eat a few bites and be perfectly happy to stop!

I was on the Carnival Valor and went to the western caribbean. It was great and I want to do another cruise as soon as possible. I would love to do a singles cruise or a dance cruise. This cruise had too many kids on spring break from college and I would have liked more people my age.

We went on a spring break cruise too. Booked our next cruise on the drive home. We are doing western Caribbean in September on Triumph. I looking for excursions in Belize and Roatan now. Definitely taking the kids out of school from now on LOL

I absolutely loved Roatan. I can get the # from my daughter. We had a private tour guide for not much money and it was awesome! Belize was too freakin hot!

We just got off the carnival valor a week ago! I personally fell in love with the smoked salmon. They had it on Bagels from the deli, but i'd just have them throw it on my plate. LOVED snorkeling in roatan, such a great destination. Don't get sucked into the "cave tubing" excusion in belize, we thought it was a huge rip off. Spent 3 of the 4.5 hours just in a bus, and then about 45 minutes hiking in the jungle with wet bathing suits and Water shoes.

Since I love the lox so much, I had every intention of having them throw everything but the bagel on my plate. My tastes have changed though. I did not care for it at all this trip. Usually I am sending my husband to the deli at odd times to grab one for me LOL

We have 4 small kids so cave tubing wasn't even on our list of things to do. I appreciate the info though. My husband is currently researching buying a home for retirement in Belize. We are in our 30's and won't be retiring for a while. He is such a dork, but perhaps we can cave tube when we move there

Oregondaisy, I would love the number or website. We are beach people and will likely just do that at every port. With the kids it is the easiest thing to do. We did leave them on board one port last week so we could get our massages. Pure heaven LOL

OMG! I was just gonna post that I went cave tubing in Belize and loved it! LOL We are sailing there this summer and will do it again. I think my youngest daughter and her friend will think it is kinda freaky. I don't remember the bus ride being that long tho . . . it was back in 2004 so maybe I have forgotten : )

In Roatan Honduras, my oldest daughter, her bf and I got a taxi to take us on a mini sightseeing trip and then he dropped us off at a beach. Not sure what we will do this time.

We rarely book tours from the ship unless time is an issue; they are considerably more expensive. We have had great luck either grabbing a taxi or tour service in port when we get off the ship or booking something ahead of time. I hang out at cruisecritic.com and get alot of great recommendations there. You can connect with others who will be on your same cruise which is fun too.

As far as the food goes, we went on a cruise about three weeks before my surgery. I practiced eating smaller amounts and it was actually nice not to have a stomach ache after every meal : )

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
