I am now on whatever I want to eat, but I am still really careful about chewing and so forth. I can have nuts-no problem. Lots of other things that surprise me. But chicken-it kills me every time. I can't do it. It just hurts SO bad. I chew and chew and chew, but I can not do chicken. Anyone else?

I have only tried chicken when it's been in lots of sauce & only a few times at that. I have heard the chicken cooked in the crockpot is a bit easier since it is much more moist that way.

I'm concerned about trying nuts, chicken, steak, and raw veggies at this point - so I am putting them off at least another month or so. Hopefully some "experienced" sleevers can chime in.

Steak goes down very easily with me. No problems there. I buy really soft cuts though, so maybe that is what it has to do with. I have only tried cashews (no peanuts) and they go down easily also. I am scared of raw veggies though. I did eat some squash when I was home (cooked really soft) but I wouldn't eat the skin because I kept thinking of Tiffy burping up corn. (seems like the same "shell" type thing) I only had about two bites because I figured it was high in carbs also. (I have no idea to be honest!)

I still have problems with chicken. I do eat it, but have to take really small bites and chew it to "DEATH" otherwise it just is to dry. If there is a sauce or gravy, that does seem to help it go down. I actually quit eating chicken salad because of it. Even with low fat mayo, it seems to dry.

I am not allowed chicken yet except in chicken salad. I am not having any problem with chicken salad. I'm in week 6.

I agree with Tiff, chicken thighs are easier because the meat is more tender. I have the same problem as most with chicken especially the white meat, (higher in protein). I used to really love mayo--not since the surgery. I tried a scoop of chicken salad yesterday and was able to eat about half.

I'm ok with chicken- I have a hard time with beef- I just don't like it anymore.

I also like turkey- and fish is where I get my Protein. I hate cooking fo r just one- seems like I waste so much, so I do simple boring meals.... I need to "plan" better.

Hi Chancie--I eat more fish now than I ever did...I really enjoy some types of fish fillet, (no fishy taste or smell). I find the texture is so much easier to get down then chicken. I tried ground beef and it fills me up very quickly unlike fish.

I have a favorite chicken and veggie dish at my chinese restaurant and I have gagged both times I tried to eat it even if I puree it. Their chicken is very course for some reason...and a few other times I've gagged on chicken. Slimes and all...

I gag on eggs too. For different reasons. I have somewhat of an aversion to eggs, coffee, chicken, whey Protein, and Vitamins. Dunno why...but the chicken I know where that aversion came from...it was that chinese food I tried to eat. And it is in sauce. But still very course.

I had problems with chicken too until about a month ago. I think I just learned to chew it enough :)

I can't do ham and cheese, though, and bread makes me queasy. I used to make a protein-sandwich-without-bread by rolling up a couple of slices of ham and one of low fat cheese and eat it, but when I tried it yesterday (4.5 months post surgery) I felt really sick for a while. Go figure.

I have no problems with chicken. But as with everything else, it has to be moist. Anything dry doesn't sit well with me. I love chicken cooked in my crock pot. I learned from my lap band, that sauces are key when eating meat. I always always have a type of sauce on any meats I eat. Hope this helps!!

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this site, but am 9 and a half weeks post-sleeve. I do just fine with beef and pork, but chicken sits like lead in my stomach. I have tried thighs and staying with very moist chicken, but I just can't handle it. I have a good friend who had gastric bypass 8 years ago and she says she still has trouble with chicken.

Thanks to everyone who posts here. Although I just registered, I have been reading posts for a couple months and find it very helpful not to feel alone.

What do you mean by sauces? Gravy, bar-b-q??! I've heard others say the same thing....I keep meaning to ask, but then get side tracked! :(

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
