VSG & Chest/Sinus cold/infections

Recommended Posts

I just thought I would share a little tidbit that I've learned over the last week. It's a long ramble just so you're forewarned.

Had my gb removed on the 4th, Caysen (the kiddo) came home sneezing and hacking on Friday the 5th. By Sunday, John started hacking and break out in a fever of 101.6. By Tuesday, the 9th, I had a tickle in my throat, and felt a little sluggish.

By Tuesday night, I was hacking up a lung with absolutely zero production, dry, heaving cough, all while trying to protect my incisions from surgery. Wednesday, I lost my voice, spiked a 102 fever, and just felt miserable.

Eating became a chore, and with every meal I became extremely nauseated. I couldn't eat meat at all therefore my Protein level dropped, my energy was all gone. I was taking Nyquil liqui caps, and then bumped up to a prescription cough Syrup with codeine.

I finally figured out yesterday that the sinus drainage, and mucus/phlegm are filling up my stomach, and it's causing major GI issues. I am still coughing, and it's finally a productive cough. But, I lost 3 more pounds due to having to eat in such small amounts and really nothing of substance.

Please take care of yourselves even post-op. I took precautionary measures when Caysen came home on Friday. Lysol'd and Ousted the house, and all common surfaces were wiped down with Clorox wipes. I always carry hand sanitizer, and use the sani-wipes at grocery stores for the carts. I'm not obsessive about it, but I do take precautions and try to keep the funk down to a minimum.

This has been the worst week I've had in a long time. I even vomitted up my dinner 2 nights ago, and that made me feel even more miserable. I'm able to eat today, and feel better, but still not 100%. Hopefully, the cough will start subsiding this week.

Gee, I never thought of the drainage filling your sleeve, and I know how that darn sinus junk can drain/ plus coughing. I would hate to have to deal with that. Hope your tummy is o.k. This is the season for everything. Forewarned and feel better.

Hi Tiff, I am so sorry that you've been suffering like that! I know I've had a sinus problem where mucus accumulates in the back of my throat but I can't cough it up, swallow it down, or blow it out of my nose! It's like a glob that just sticks in a space somewhere in there and it has been very disturbing. I made an appointment with an ENT but I am afraid to be scoped and/or sprayed with any numbing stuff in my throat I'm figuring it's some sort of sinus infection. I sure hope you and your family continue to get better. Please keep us informed.

Wow! So sorry to hear you are going through this. Never, in my wildest dreams would I have thought about drainage causing those issues. Take care & feel better soon.

I think that GB surgery lowered our resistance. You know I had that cold, horse voice and ear infection for weeks. I have been taking echinacea which is supposed to strengthen the immune system. I swear by that stuff!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
