My doctor doesn't want me to snack either, but says that I can "occaisionally" on high-protein only Snacks. My nut, doesn't think 3 meals a day is really possible since we eat so little at a meal. I'm not to the "regular food" stage yet, so I don't know how I'm going to react. But, if I decide to have a snack of Protein, I'm not going to beat myself up over it. I got the sleeve to eat (and look) like a thin person. Real people snack sometimes ...

You're not alone. I'm supposed to have 4 meals a day consisting of at least 15-20grams of Protein, and then green veggies, if any room, carbs last.

Obviously, I don't do this anymore. But, I'm in a weird place with my weight loss. I'm not supposed to be losing anymore, but I don't want to gain either. So, I'm eating a more balanced diet. I occasionally have a "treat' like maybe 2-3 times a week. I figure 1 fun size snickers isn't going to completely sabotage my efforts.

Midwest Girl,

Yes.. the Amy's Organics line is found in the frozen foods. I double checked the carb count today and it's 18 gms carbs with 10 gms Protein. If I'm going to indulge in carbs I prefer that the Protein count nearly match the carb count...(like with Wendy's Chili). But I can't get over how good that enchilada was. I'm pretty sure I could recreate it (homemade) and get the protein count up a bit but for a readymade frozen dinner, this one's a keeper.

I know alot of people avoid corn tortillas because of the carb count, they also avoid popcorn for the same reason. However, Corn is a whole grain and if eaten in moderation, it can be part of a healthy diet. I'd rather have one corn tortilla in a healthy enchilada that satisfies a craving than to have something unsatisfying that keeps me searching the cupboards and trying different things.

i tend to do really well at work but when i get home at night i graze. i hate myself most nights for that. i also haven't been going to the gym due to stuff coming up. i can't do any kind of step aerobics or the hip hop abs i found online because i have a hurt foot. it hurts so bad and i think i could have a stress fracture and can't see ortho till march 1st. i can't keep hurting my foot because i have to go to work and if i keep hurting it then i can't go to work. so i am getting me one of those exercise ball so i can do it at home. give me some ideas on what i can do with the ball....

oh, I forgot another one of my favorite Snacks, I like corn tortillas baked whole until they are crisp, then I will spread FF cream cheese on it, and add salsa. 2 Tia Rosa white corn tortillas only have 12 gms of carbs and 110 calories and it really helps when I want to stress eat on something crunchy, and you can only eat one about 2 hrs apart, so it is great after work, instead of dinner. I usually eat most of my calories while at work, and save about 150 cals for after work. Besides, after grazing all day, I am not really hungry at night anyway. But, until you are out at least 3 mos, don't try this snack.< /span>

This is an old South Beach Diet trick.....

You'll need parchment paper...and no..waxed paper will NOT work instead. It has to be parchment paper.

Cut a piece of parchment paper to fit in your microwave. Put nickel size pieces of reduced fat cheese on the parchment paper (I use reduced fat string cheese, sharp cheddar or shredded (not grated) parmesan).

put parchment with the cheese on it into the microwave. Cook for 30-45 seconds, it might take a full minute. Cheese will puff up, let cool slightly and see if it's crisp. (They crisp after they cool slightly).

You can sprinkle the cheese portions with taco seasoning, italian season...whatever suits you for extra flavor.

these are salty, crunchy and a great source of protein!

I was just at my support group meeting and the nutritionist stressed the importance of one or two Protein Snacks. She said it is important to keep our metabolism going by constantly burning and digesting food.

I forgot one of my favorite Snacks are Protein Bars. They taste like candy to me and I figure they are better than candy because they have Protein in them. I try to choose the ones that are high in protein and not carbs.

Eating my three meals plus two snacks is what got me to goal. I don't count my evening snack of a SF Jello or sf popsicle as a snack either.

Laura, you might also have plantar fiscitits with spurs, I thought i had "fractured" my foot at one time cause the pain was amazing especially in the morning getting out of bed. . . I'd hobble around for a while and eventually it would subside, not go away, just subside. . . then i went to the foot doctor and sure enough, I had several spurs and plantars fiscititis. . .what a pain (literally) . . . exercise balls usually come with exercises don't they? If not, get a tape you can follow for exercise balls. . grazing is not good. . .don't know what to tell you about that though sorry. . .

I became a nut freak, but now I'm moving off that it seems. I guess you do just crave what you need. Every day is so different. And there are different phases. I also like Beef Jerky, the Teriyaki. Walmart has a lil bag for $1.97 that has 21 grams of Protein. I like that it is pre portioned.

I had nachos at a lil junk food place a while back. It is a carnivally type food place. I had been craving nachos with jalapenos for weeks - it was so good and I haven't wanted them since then.....

You just gotta go with what you crave - listen to your body. You can't eat much of it anyway.

The foods that taste best/different/better since surgery are definitely black Beans, fresh Tomato - the taste seems so vibrant now. But I couldn't eat a cooked green bean if you paid me - just no appeal. Things change.

They are all low carb, high Protein, low call and delivery is free if you buy over $79 worth of goodies. Happy hunting for your snacky foods - I know I love them & they keep me on track. Oh, I almost for forgot to mention their pancake mix and the pastas - I like them very much too.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
