By then, I had nothing to ask. Between the seminar, meeting with the patient counselor, coordinator, Dietician, psychologist, OR nurse, and surgeon's assistant, I was out of questions. :001_unsure:

I did ask about how many patients he has sleeved who ended up with a leak. Something I never thought to ask before coming to this forum. But, the answer was 1 ever and that individual, according to my surgeon, took matters into his own hands, advanced his diet too quickly, and developed a leak a month or so post-op. So I wasn't worried. :001_unsure: I think that's about it! If you're concerned about nausea afterwards, you could also ask if they could prescribe something ahead of time so you have it when you get home if you need it. That's what they did with my pain meds and I know some docs do nausea meds as a standard procedure, but mine didn't & I ended up with a fit of dry heaves the night I got home so it may have come in handy.:blushing:

I just had mine January 7th I asked what his leak percents were, then the hospital in general. What his knowledge of the death rate for his hospital was and him as well.

I asked if there was going to be a drain tube, if so how long (length) and then how long would it be in.

I asked how long he personally had been doing VSG (as he also does RnY).

How many sleeves he's performed?

How many leaks?

What size boughie?

How many nights in the hospital?

How many leak tests?

Post-op diet?

Goal weight expectations?

Do you oversew or use glue on the staple line?

Will you use my old lap scars from my band surgery? (this one won't apply to most)

I asked a bunch of questions pertaining to my personal eating habits, my lifestyle, and my previous health issues.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
