Liquid Protein

Recommended Posts

I am 9 days out and although I am able to drink my liquids (mostly 4C Iced Tea), I am not getting my Protein in. My question here is if anyone has done the Liquid Protein shots instead? GNC has a number of different vials of liquid protein that are either 42 or 45 grams each. I think this would allow me to get my protein until I am able to eat fish and actual meats again. My thought is that as long as I get the protein in, who cares how...LOL!

I used them with my band surgery, tried to use them with my revision, but they were too sweettart'ish for me to tolerate.

There is some controversy on the quality of Protein that these are comprised of. It's mainly a collagen Protein and not whey or soy which is supposed to the premium protein choices. Some people are adamantly against them, some say at least you are getting in some form of protein.

When I did use them with my band surgery, I only could tolerate the fruit punch New Whey flavor. I tried using them with my revision, but even diluted down with gatorade or sugar-free popsicles mushed up, they were just way too sweet.

I've heard that the body does not even absorb this kind of Protein. It would be better to order the Syntrex nectar. See the food thread for places to order different samples of liquid protein. There are a lot of samples of protein that you can order that are high quality.

They gave me a few of these samples in the hospital. My dietician said they were okay - not great - but okay. I agree there are lots of better options.

I did enjoy the nectar Proteins, especially in the summer when it was so dang hot here in TX.

Well, I finally broke down and called the hospital yesterday and asked about the liquid Protein. I was told that ANY way you can keep your Protein up is fine. They said these shots are fine as long as you are still getting your liquids in too. Since I am able to drink Water or tea in volume, I am fine. The liquid protein is VERY sweet (splenda) and thick, but still easier for me. One tube is 52 grams of protein so I just take a sip or two a couple times a day to spread it out.

Hope this helps!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
