Some Generic Post Op observations

Recommended Posts

Post-Op day 13: Got the OK to start mixing things up yesterday! People... I have had ZERO complications to date and I made sure to ask my doc before proceeding. Please make sure you ask!

Today did all liquids except for dinner. Ordered Soup ( in case meat didn't work) and had one piece of my husbands chicken. About the length and width of my thumb. Cut it up into tiny bites, chewed it until the consistency of mush and ate it in about 30 minutes. Got full and did not have space for Soup. Also didn't want to mix liquids with the Protein. I was at a restaurant and that is why I didn't pre mush it, but it worked well. WARNING: A tougher piece of meat would not work well to chew it into mush! This chix was nice and flaky. My hubby high fived me when I told him I was full!

Observations:

1) The difference between liquids and any other stage is amazing. In the liquid stage I thought I would never really feel satisfied again. In the mushie stage, I am happy to say I love my sleeve!

2). Those of you that are controlled diabetics, I am happy to report that even in liquids stage, I did not have any mad sugar swings! I actually feel pretty darn good.

3) I am convinced that it would have been good to have joined a support group PRIOR to the surgery. At this time, this forum is my support group, however I plan on joining one next week.

4). To date, I have lost 18 lbs. That rocks. This inspired me to continue with my mushies/liquid mix 1 more week as my doc recommended. Instead of me feeling like I was cheating, he offered me an alternative.

5). Damn people, don't underestimate the power that your mind has to sabotage your good intentions. Stay strong people! I struggle with this every day and I think I am a very strong person.

6). I have had zero complications to date (except the runs on day 11). Am anxiously awaiting my first big mistake that will cause me to throw up or whatever it is that we sometimes do. Any time I try something with a new consistency, I wait like 5 mins in between each bite to make sure I chewed it enought and that it is going to stay down...

OK, that's the end of my latest info!

Post Op Day 14:

"Just because you can doesn't mean you should."

That's my observation. I ate two things that went down but in thinking about it, my body and mind are in accord: you are not ready. Even though they were reduced to mush, it just didn't feel right.

Bfast: I had 1/8 of a small sausage patty and ~1/2 scrambled egg (think holiday inn express). I didn't finish the patty because it was too tough to totally reduce to mush.

Lunch: 1 slice of hubbies quesadilla and some mashed potatoes. While the quesadilla was reduced to mush, it just mentally and physically didn't feel right. Next time, will stop at subway and get egg salad or their seafood salad. Portion wise, I didn't finish either and they went into lunch and a snack. Still have potatoes left even after snack.

For dinner, probably just having a shake. I am tired of eating actually!

Don't move too fast. I must eat slow and chew enough that I don't get the stuff y'all talk about but I can mentally see that I am moving light years too fast. Just doesn't feel right and don't want to grow overconfident!

Damn, this is tough!

For those of you tracking my progress, I am keeping a daily (or every other day) food log in the Pre and post Op diet forum. I document observations there, too.

Consider this my last posting on this thread... Thanks for all the support! I hope my diet log helps any new people. I hope it keeps me more accountable.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
