4 days post op and was doing great. This morning the diarrhea started and I have been keeping the floor hot between here and the bathroom. Not doing much when I am there, gas and small amounts of bm. I finally gave up and took Imodium but it has only provided limited relief. Should I be worried about this? Could it be the over abundance of artificial sweetener in the crystal light, sf Jello etc? :confused1: I just want to sleep wahhhhhh I am literally pooped.

mist3blue, That is very common when on the liquid phase. The saying is ...liquid in liquid out. This will get better. Thoughts are with you. I remember being in the same place. It will get better. Good luck. carol

I had the same thing the night between day 2 and 3, and get it about once/day now (I'm heading into day 6). Did you have permission from your doc to do the immodium? I personally wouldn't take anything digestive related, without specific instructions to do so, until WAY post-op.

You should definitely talk to your doc about this. Don't be shy about calling on the weekend. Call their service if it's really bothering you and it's the weekend. That's what they're there for. Good luck!

Not uncommon at all -- I had diarrhea 6 days after surgery that lasted about 2-3 days ... I had permission from my doctor to take Immodium; however, I opted not to do so as too much will bind you up and you'll have a totally different set of problems. I wouldn't be overly concerned about the "problem" as it is quite common and your doctor should have told you to expect it at some point --and, again, liquids in liquids out. You're also not eating enough to keep things moving, so don't be surprised if once the diarrhea subsides you don't go very often ... according to my surgeon, it's not unusual or uncommon to go every 5 days or so.

What you are experiencing is very normal. Take the imodium when you need to. The diarrhea gets old in a hurry.

First time in post-surgery when I had a real, solid BeeMer I wanted to take pictures. I was so happy. Not that yellowish greenish ick, but a real one. Called family and announced the birth. Not really, but it was 10 days after my surgery! You'll be ok, and from my experience it is normal. If it keeps happening, definitely call your doc...it's what s/he is there for!

Bob, I am sure your family appreciates your decision not to take pictures!

But yes, liquids in, liquids out. Not fun, but just part of the process.

I had the day from hell diarrha too, about day 4 I think. I thought it was the Collegenic Protein in those whey Protein Shots. Maybe it was just a coincidence, IDK. But that was the worst day. After that, I was OK, day 5 was like night and day to day 4. I still get diarrha after having Soup broth for dinner. I've tried all kinds of packaged soup broth and it comes out the same consistency it went it, only much much faster. Ick, I know.

I think today I had a much more solid BM than days past, but didn't want to inspect too close, kwim? Oh what a great topic: poop and gas.....way to spend the day. :smile1:

Yes but where else can we discuss these delicate issues lol The constant going to the bathroom has ended but I am still having a round or two with it every 2 days or so. I'm thinking pain meds. Or it could be my body getting even, who knows lol

I had to run to the bathroom today. I don't know what caused it other than I had a piece of pepperoni stick that was kind of greasy.

AJW - I had the peacock poop about 3 days after getting home from the hospital that lasted 2 days ... after that it subsided and would come and go -- never knew what would set it off -- I only kept telling myself - liquids in, liquids out ... and once you get on more solid food, it will be better -- but don't be surprised if you only go every 4-5 days -- I asked Dr. Campos about that when Beareded had his surgery and he said it was totally natural - that I wasn't putting enough in for my body to expel... I know that eating salad every now and again really makes a difference.

Even after I'm back to solid foods, I plan to follow the Medifast diet I did pre-op. This is the quickest way I know to lose all this weight. So I won't be reverting to pizza, junk food, and other carb-laden foods. I'm committed to this process and want to be highly successful. 2009 is my year of transformation; once the weight's off, it'll be onto the nip/tuck process for my complete overhaul. I'm 60, so time is not on my side and I want to make the most of what I've got before I turn 70 in 10 years. This is my time to shine!:sneaky2:

You guys are great, had a leak test on Wednesday which I knew was going to trigger the diarrhea and as per clockwork it did (my stomach is never that stable.). I have now had three days of the same problem but as a newbie now six days out I will admit that I drink a lot (sip a lot) up to a litre of Water over a few hours and the Liquids in liquids our rule seems to excists.

I find that the minute I sip and sip and sip, it's like a bucket spilling it's content. Would less liquid over a longer time make a difference and does it ever disappear completely ?

I don't think it disappears until you're off liquids and eating soft foods.

You can take immodium.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
