Are you looking for the BariatricPal Store? Go now!

What do you want to do that you couldn't do before the sleeve?

Recommended Posts

Ok, what do I want to do?

1. I want to buy clothes in a store--not online. I live in Korea and Koreans are tiny. Size 8-10 is considered XL. I have to buy my plus clothes online. :-(

2. I want to go scuba diving again and not have to put on 20 pounds of weight to get under (remember hearing that fat floats??)

3. I want to hang out on the beach this summer without wearing a tankini and board shorts.

I want to take long walks with my husband without tiring out or being sore, play with my grandgirls on the floor and be able to get back up again without help, and fit compfy in an airplane seat. Skinny jeans would also be nice!

What am I going to do after I lose all my weight... Hmm

1) Shop for some cute, trendy and tight clothes. Ok, maybe just try them out at the store, but y'all get my drift.

2) Way personal: enjoy missionary and still be able to breathe.

3) Enjoy traveling in an airplane more.

4) I want to hike the Bright Angel Trail at the Grand Canyon. Not because I really want to, but because I remember a very embarrassing event that happened there where I only went a really short way and it took me forever to get back up and I thought someone was going to have to call a helicopter to get me out! Doing this will hopefully replace that memory.

5) Start taking more pictures with me in them.

That's all I can think for now.

- I want to not feel like I have a inner tube around my neck and around the middle of me.

- I want to be able to sit for more than 15 minutes without my tailbone hurting because of the weight on it.

- I want to be able to breathe when I bend over to tie my shoes.

- I want my feet not to hurt after working all day (in good supportive athletic shoes).

- I want to be able to go up and down a flight of stairs without every step hurting my knees.

- I want to not have to take Pepcid every night so I don't wake up choking on stomach acid.

- I want to sleep through the night without waking five or more times either with acid, having to pee, or just being uncomfortable.

- I want to not have to worry about developing high blood pressure or diabetes.

- I want to not have to worry about my stomach or thighs getting in the way of things when I'm under the sheets with my hubby.

- I want to move freely and unencumbered.

- I want to run at least a 5k by this fall.

- I want to wear a nice pair of jeans and have people notice my butt--not because it's the size of a barn, but because it's peachy!

- I want to have a bigger variety of shoes that don't cost a fortune to fit my current size 7 4Es. (They're wide, but now they're extra extra wide)

- I want one pair of those shoes to be a really slutty-looking pair of heels, to be worn with the nice jeans. :001_cool:

- I want to be able to get into our backyard pool without watching out the windows for 5 minutes first to make sure none of the neighbors are outside or at their windows to see me.

- I want to wear a cute bikini top with a pair of board shorts ('cause these thighs ain't ever gonna be pretty).

- Mostly I just want to be free and comfortable with myself!

Hi JeepChick,

I understand exactly what you mean the the weight belt thing. Problem is when you get skinny you will need a wet suit, as you will have lost your inbuilt one! So you will still need weights.

So...I was reading the World According to Eggface, starting from the beginning because I love the blog but had never really read her story. I came across a little survey thing she did and it asked "what color are your pants?" and she said pink shorts. And then......I just realized that someday in the relatively near future I will be able to wear SHORTS. I seriously almost started crying....I'm 21 years old and haven't worn shorts (except gym shorts or pajama shorts) since I was in grade school. Literally. I know it's not that big in the larger scheme, but I've always just said to myself "I'm fat. I can't wear shorts." And someday that won't be true anymore and I'll be able to wear shorts if I damn well please. Sorry, it was just a lightbulb moment & wanted to share it with others who would understand the feeling!

Oh I hear you about shorts! I don't remember when I wore shorts. I am glad capris became popular. Even when I was slightly overweight, the legs of the shorts would always work their way up between the legs. UGH! Boy I hope I lose enough that that doesn't happen!

My surgery date is 2/23. Finally! In Kansas City. I'm self paying for VSG.

Wish me luck

Wanda

I want to cross my legs (and have them stay crossed).

I want to see the sexy woman that my husband sees.

I want to run!

I want to walk into any store without feeling like the "weight sensors" in the floor are going to alert someone that a fatty just walked in and needs to be escorted out.

I don't want to be the person that my friends come to after having a baby to borrow some "fat clothes" until they can fit into their own again.

I want to be able to go somewhere without feeling like I have nothing to wear because i feel fat in all of my clothes.

I want to like me again

Actually I want to LOVE me!

Boy, the things I want to be able to do are buy some sexy outflts and look cute in them, be more confident with my husband, be able to buy regular sized clothes, be able to play with my daughter without getting out of breath, to be able to go off some of my medications, to be happier and heathier and to gain a better self image because right now I really hate the way I look. Yuck.. I wonder how I could let myself get this heavy. I guess it is called love for food..

I'm only 2 weeks out and have a ways to go but I would looove to cross my legs without wedging my foot on something to keep it pinned there. I would love to go shopping with friends and buy something besides shoes and purses. I would love to go running with my dog, who is WAY more athletic than I am. I would love to not be the biggest person in the room. I would love to inspire my mom to have this surgery so I get to keep her longer.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

      3. NickelChip

I think it's important to remember that the weight charts and BMI ranges were developed a very long time ago and only intended to be applied to people who have never been overweight or obese. Those numbers aren't for us. When you are larger, especially for a long time, your body develops extra bone to support the weight. Your organs get a little bigger to handle the extra mass. Your entire infrastructure increases so you can support and function with the extra weight. That doesn't all go away just because you burn off the excess fat. If you still had a pair of jeans from your skinniest point in life and then lost weight to get to the exact number on the scale you were when those jeans fit you, chances are they would be a little baggy now because you would actually be thinner than you were, even though the scale and the BMI chart disagree. When in doubt, listen to the jeans, not the scale!

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
