I am sure we all have our personal reasons for wanting to lose weight and get the sleeve. And, I am sure there are certain things we all want to do once we reach goal that we have held back from doing because of our weight. I personally find those goals/dreams to be very motivating, and like to see some of the things that motivate others to lose weight, besides the obvious one of better health.

For me, I want to be able to go to the beach without feeling ashamed and embarrassed. I want to lose the huge cover-up that I always where when we go. Another thing I have wanted to do my whole adult life is to shop at Victoria's Secret. I have never been able to due to my size. But, once I reach goal, I want to buy tons of sexy bras, panties and nighties.

So, share with us, what do you want to do?

I thought of a few more things;

I want to DANCE again, SWIM again, HIKE again,

GO Horse back riding again, Ride Motorcycles again.

I love your success story. I'm about to turn 61 before my VSG. I'm 200 lbs and 5'3", carrying it mostly in the mid body and upper arms and back. I want to ask you what if any problems you've had with loose skin as your weight came off.

Hi TinyTummy, and welcome to VST! We are so happy to have you join us. You will find lots of wonderful people here.

I am still fairly new into my journey, and right now, I do have quite a bit of loose skin. However, I am told to give it a year once you reach goal weight before having any work done, as the skin may tighten up during that time period. I am truly hoping that will be the case for me.

Do you have a date set yet? Who is your doctor? Let us know if you have any questions, we are always happy to help.

Welcome Tiny to our forum - I am not very far out from surgery (just under 4 months) so I cannot answer your questions about excess skin. I have heard the same thing as Susan - wait a year after reaching goal to see how much things tighten up. That part may be as difficult as reaching goal!

If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. Keep us posted on your journey~

That was one of my desires, too, which I was able to accomplish on our cruise because I was way under their maximum weight ... it was nice to get up on the horse and not hear him moan from the weight! Keep on keeping on and we'll all make it!

I am very curious about the loose skin. That is a big concern for me. I mean we all put so much money into surgery (or at least I will, I'm a self pay) and I'll work hard to loose the weight only to have to pay for another surgery to remove the skin?

Will execise work at all, to make the skin shrink at least partly? What should I do? I watch the biggiest looser and those people to seem not to have so much loose skin. DO you think they have surgery before the finaly?

Exercise will definitely help to tone the muscle under the skin and the skin has some elasticity, so it will "snap" back some -- who knows how much in a year after you reach goal - maybe you'll need surgery, maybe you won't - it's a wait and see. As for me, if I have to have PS after I reach goal, then it will be worth it to me for finally being healthy.

I don't think those on Biggest Loser have PS before the finale - I think clothes hide a lot!

Love the ideas of the tattoos! I have been considering one to symbolise the weightloss. I was thinking more along the gemini scales symbol, I'm scorpio though so I wonder if thats silly! I have 2 existing tattoos, and can't decide where this one will go!

Re the lose skin I am lucky I have lost 84lbs and I have *some* lose skin on my arms, but I figure I can live with that!

Hi Daisy, why don't you bake or something and just turn up with offerings. They surely can't leave you on the door step?? Force yourself in, otherwise you will be sidelined.

Good luck and keep your chin up.

Hugs, Jane

Wow....everyone is so inspiring! What a great idea of a topic. There are so many reasons I want to be one of those "skinny bitches"...lol.... First off is to get off my BP medication, and have all the aches and pains stop. Next is be a more active parent. I have children who love to downhill ski and hike and so forth. I want to join them. I want to cherish the quality time that I can have with them before they are grown and young adults. I want to be able to shop at Victoria Secret and Lazena. I want to feel attractive and not Lumpy. I want to be energized...I want to be able to jog...do marathons...I want a second chance! *sigh*

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
