I just got the best phone call. I had blood work pulled on Tuesday, and the result came back almost perfect. One of my electrolytes was a little "low normal" and the dietician wanted to make sure that I was not getting dehydrated. She asked me questions about my urine, and made me pull the skin up on the back of my hand. Well, my urine is good, and my skin fell right back into place. I haven't had a temperature, not having any notable pain, and I am finally sleeping.

This is just one of the main "check marks" I needed to be able to transition off the TPN and onto the clear liquid diet on Monday. 4 more days of this TPN and I go back to the surgeon on Monday. Thanks for all the support, prayers and thoughts. . .:laugh0:

That's fantastic Tiff - I'm happy for you. I am sure it will be all good news on Monday, too.

Appears from her "test" I am dehydrated on my left hand, but not my right ... LOL

I found out this afternoon that even if I don't have a leak, and that my labs look great, I will have to be weaned off the TPN. I probably have 1-2 more weeks of this crap. My time attached to the bag will be reduced over that 1-2 week time period. I guess it's better than never getting off of it, but it sure was disheartening when they told me.

Oh hun, I'm so sorry. Hang in there. (I know easy for me to say)

I can't remember. How did they figure out you had a leak? Were you in pain or did you just flunk the leak test?

I failed a leak test on Friday, June 5th. I hadn't really felt that great all day, my temperature was up and down most of the day. Low-grade fever, but still a fever.

TPN is very high in dextrose and abruptly stopping it will cause your blood glucose level to crash. That poses a whole list of complications that you don't want. I've got my fingers and toes crossed that you'll get good news on Mon.

I'm hoping he at least cuts my time down on the line. I'm on it 24hrs a day, and it's just draining. Even just having 1-4 hours off of this line would be some relief. I'm scared to death of coming off it, and having complications from this thing.

I am just exhausted right now, and trying to not get whiny.

You're entitled to be whiny. You've been through a lot. They will likely decrease the hourly rate and then wean you to an IV solution of D 10 W before discontinuing it. Ask your MD about compression TPN... off during the day hours and on from dinner to 6 AM.

Thank you so very much for all of the information. I will definitely be asking tons of questions, and taking notes. I'm just so drained.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
