I think we should have a review section so new people can look at it and see what people like. Everyone's taste is different but maybe it can help.

People also said their taste changed after surgery, but mine didn't.

I love Muscle Milk Light in chocolate but WasA hates it. She thinks it's too sweet. I think it tastes the most like regular ol choclate milk, not like a Protein Drink.< /p>

We both really like whey Gourmet Peanut Butter and chocolate.

I am disappointed in Lean Dessert Chocolate Coconut. It doesn't really seem to have a lot of flavor.

The EAS strawberry flavor is good. You get that at Target.

I am one of the ones whose tastes did change: and I think it's here to stay because I am now past three months post op. Plain Water is boring, I can only drink it if it is super cold.

One trick I have found that works for me is to cut my juice with water; like 1/4th juice with 3/4th water. That way I can get some flavor and get my water in at the same time.

Juice, Vitamin water etc, are all too sweet by themselves, so this works for me.

GREAT IDEA!!

I am anxious to try that -- is that in the full liquid stage? I get to start that on Tuesday

Not sure I can do this one - does it taste anything like Peanut Butter fudge? I can't do that as I OD on that one year when I was a girl scout and the thought makes me sick!

I am disappointed in Lean Dessert Chocolate Coconut. It doesn't really seem to have a lot of flavor.

Wonder if you added some sugar free Syrup to it if it would help - they make both chocolate and coconut, among a zillion others. Do you have a Smart & Final in Oregon? They carry an amazing selection.

The French vanilla is good too!

If I find anything I just LOVE .. I'll be sure to let everyone know ... so far, no go though.

I got the muscle milk light at costco. You can buy case of it for around $20. They also make it in a powder. I have never tried that. I have seen the powder at GNC though. It's full liquid.< /p>

The gourmet Whey is very smooth. Neither the Peanut Butter flavor or the chocolate flavor are over bearing. It's not too sweet.

That's a good idea. I know where to get the sf syrups here. I never thought about adding more coconut or more chocolate. I have raspberry which WasA suggested I add to chocolate and it's good that way. I have a ton of Protein powders left over, but I don't mind because I don't like to cook or do dishes so I am happy with Protein drinks for Breakfast and dinner.

This is my mixture:

Muscle Milk vanilla Creme Powder 2 scoops

3 spoon fulls of plain yogurt

some kind of fruit

6 oz of milk

and wala, it even keeps its consistency in the fridge

changing the fruit changes the flavor.:)

Sounds yummy ... I'll give it a try when I'm on full liquids ... I have the EAS Vanilla and it's great in smoothies and such ... not so good on it's own though.

That's why it would be nice if people would tell us if they found a good one. It seems like Mac didn't like most but finally found one she did like.

LBT has a section for the post op phases but we don't seem to have anything here like that, other than the food section.

I need to ask Mac which one she found to be okay.

I ordered a bunch of samples of the Syntrax nectar from Vitalady.com (Thanks Mac). I need something that I can mix in Water. I won't drink milk, it's not a lactose thing, it's milk/ice cream/shakes/malts etc etc are all way too heavy for me even when I was not banded, I can't imagine trying to consume thick stuff now. I've never liked the "heaviness/thickness" of milk. Something happened to my liking for milk/ice cream when I got pregnant.

I'll post reviews of each flavor since this will be the first time I've tried this brand. I'm hoping it works out since the 15 others I've tried failed miserably. My samples should be here early next week, and I should be able to mix them with Water and have them count as clears.

I haven't found anything I like yet at all. The powder stuff is okay - tolerable - almost too sweet though - can't do much of it at a time. I'm going to order some of the Syntrax Nectar... however, I may wait and see which ones you like before I do. At this point, I figure whatever Protein I get in is better than nothing.

I believe that this is the one that Mac liked in the flavor called cherry smash.

I found that I really like the Body Fortress from Walmart. Theres chocolate and vanilla. I mix it with milk and it tastes just like chocolate milk to me. Its packed with Protein, super low in carbs, altho with the milk, it adds some, but can be mixed with Water...it just tastes better with milk. It also costs alot less than some powders.

I also liked a few of the nectar Proteins

Its been so long since Ive used any of them, I cant remember.

I used to use the Bullets, but cant say that I really liked them...but they did give me the boost that I needed for the day.

Protein is so individual. Lots of stuff that the majority love, I can't stand.

Some stuff that lots of people like:

Syntrax nectar (I liked it at first and am going to try it again)

Oh Yeah! RTD

EAS RTD

Atkins RTD

Lean Dessert (I thought it tasted like garbage)

I can't do *any* of the RTD ones. I think it's a texture thing. I did Champion Nutrition for a while, but I never really loved them and now I can't do theirs. I tried soy Protein powders and an egg Protein powder too. Couldn't stand them. But some people can't deal with 100% whey and find those to be excellent.

My favorite is Chike. It has mostly natural sweeteners (but some sucralose) and claims to be gluten free. I think it has some soy in it but it's mostly whey. Sometimes I think it has a weird after-taste, but most of the time I don't taste that. (And it might be from the Davinci/Torani syrups I sometimes add.)

With the others, the after-taste would start out acceptable, but there, and then, over time, I'd notice it more and more! I think I'm just very tuned into artificial flavors and a lot of these shakes are full of additives.

I found that the Whey Necter, Fuzy Navel was supposed to be good. Well it has a medicine after taste Gross!!!! so I added one fruit punch Protein bullet to it and is is now drinkable. Not the best but barely drinkable.

just my 2 cents worth...

I know this isn't a Protein post, but I thought I would share my wonderful find today.

Pre-op, I bought Celestial flavor tea sample pack. It's decaffeinated. I decided to venture out and try something warm today.

The country peach flavor is wonderful. I didn't sweeten it with anything, and I have found that the warm liquid is going down much easier than room temperature/cool stuff.

I have sensitive teeth so I don't like super cold drinks.

Tomorrow, I'll try the other flavors and let y'all know what I think of them. The only flavor I won't try is the cherry. I can't stand cherry/grape flavored things.

My Protein samples still aren't here, but as soon as they are, I'll update with those reviews.

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
