GI problems and protein powder

Recommended Posts

So I just got my unflavored Unjury Protein in the mail... was so excited! Started adding it to shakes, yogurt, oatmeal, pudding, etc. It tastes pretty good... so I thought "score"...finally I will be able to get all my protein in without actually having to eat chunks of meat (I hate meat). However, second day into it, I noticed that I am getting very bloated, gassy, and uncomfortable around the lower abdomen. Is igt just me or has anyo ne experience this with protein powders? Thank you!

I haven't had that particular problem, but I've noticed that every time I eat a whey Protein bar, or a whey Protein shake, I get little sores on the roof of my mouth. Guess I'm allergic.

Silly - are you lactose intolerant? The symptoms you describe sound like it. Since whey is from milk Protein, it could cause a problem. Just a thought........

Nope, I am not lactose intolerant. I've been drinking milk and eating all sorts of dairy all my life. Not sure what to think about it.

Do you use a blender. I started feeling that way even though i always use onE. I started feeling very bloated. Maybe stop blender for a short time

Maybe it's a bit too much of a new product too quick? Also if I'm not careful with fruit sugars my stomach reacts. Just some thoughts...

That's a really good idea. I do notice that when I blend shakes instead of using a shaker cup, I'm totally gassy and uncomfortable. Though they taste GREAT from the blender....with fruit, etc., I pay a price.

I've been pretty much living off Atkins shakes (banded Sept 19th) and get gassy and bloated. So uncomfortable, but only have 5 days left on liquids. Take Gas X each morning before going to work and that seems to help.

I was drinking Bariatric Advantage Meal Replacements before surgery without any problem and they are yummy! Post surgery they give me severe diarrhea about an hr after I drink them! It took me forever to figure out what was causing that but Adkins shakes and several other whey Protein based shakes do the same. It seems like post surgery I have become what I like to call "lactose sensitive"! Try Genisoy products

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
