In the past 3 days I have gained 3 lbs. al though this is my first week eating food should I expect this? Also the area where the port is very tender and sore is this normal or should I be concerned?

It sounds like you recently got banded if your just starting to eat solid food? I was banded on Aug 14 and I still get soreness at my incisions when I sit for a long time and by the port and in the muscle area of my left side. My doc says its normal. Think about it, if you just recently had surgery -- those areas have to have time to heal, its not just the outer visible area that is healing.

Well, thats my two sense, but as always call your doc if your concerned. Good Luck on losing those 23lb! I am right behind you at 22lbs lost! 50 to go!

Gaining a little bit of weight is totally normal after starting solids, and before getting your first fill. 3lbs in 3 days is probably due to retaining Water, than actual weight. Track your calories, and drink lots of fluids, and those 3lbs will be gone in no time. As far as the port site discomfort, the port takes the longest to heal. Mine seemed to take FOR EVER to heal! You can always call your surgeon if you need to.

Good advice here.

Surgery can cause a bit of weight gain, and Water retention. Our bodies tend to insulate and swell up when we have any kind of trauma.

Give yourself some TLC, put an ice pack on the port site. Mine took some time to heal as well. For me it's also at the exact level of my desk at work so it gets bumped often :(

Keep up your H2O, and get some walking in when you can. Your doing great! Hope all feels right for you soon!

I was sore at the port site for quite a while. If you're gaining weight, it's likely Water retention...or it's close to that time of the month. Watch your salt intake, increase your water consumption and wait a week. Those 3 pounds will be gone, plus a few more. It takes 3500 calories to gain a pound of weight...have you consumed that much? I didn't think so. No worries.

to gain actual weight, you must eat 3500 calories...did you eat 10,000+ extra calories recently?...heck no, it could be Water, maybe TOM, maybe you need to take a big poop or need to pee alot.....who knows

stay off the scale..let your insides heal.......and def judge your loss by inches just by not what the scale says....and your port can be sore for up to a month and maybe longer...as long as it is not red, puss or warm, then you seem to be healing just fine........stay with your doctors instructions and you will succeed......you already are :)

Agree with carolinagirl, I had gained a few pounds and at my fill under flouro I was full of S%#*!! If I don't get my 80oz of Water I get very constipated...fill up with gas and my port starts to hurt...Miralax if you have to, Probiotics have helped me too!!

Good Luck. :>)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
