Why am I not more excited?

Recommended Posts

3rd fill today and down 38.2 lbs since my July 24th surgery. Why am I not excited? I feel really blah. Just blah about everything.

Anyone else feeling this way?

Congrats!!! That's a great loss, and you should be very happy and proud of yourself!! I get days where I feel 'blah' too, but there are others I'm really excited about what I've accomplished. I've found this whole process can be quite the emotional rollercoaster! Hang in there, and keep up the great work! You're doing FANTASTIC!

If I had lost that much weight in less than 2 months I'd be overwhelmingly happy? Not putting you down, just saying how I'd feel. Is this not important to you? It was for me and after 8 weeks I had only lost 12 lbs and it stayed that way for 8 more weeks.

Thanks Manda. I appreciate the cheering!

2 much - I am happy about the weight loss. I meedes this so bad because of more than weight. I had some other things wrong that are starting to balance out.

I think its sometimes overwhelming and I feel like I am always thinking about how to get healthy foods in with a crazy life. I'm traveling for work and have kids in before & after school practices and running to games and church activites. Its just a lot and trying to figure it all out.

I know this is a phase but I want to enjoy this process. No one around me has been through this and can't really understand all the emotions. I've lost almost 40 lbs but not enough to go down in clothes so I just feel frumpy all the time. No better explanation than blah, but not sad or regret.

I can understand. I guess I'm kindof lucky. It's just me and my wife and I'm the chef. So, I cook and eat what is good for my band and my wife has adapted. We both work from home so meal planning is simple and there's not a lot of drama from kids running in and out.

I can't imagine having little ones. I remember those days well. If they didn't eat all their chicken nuggets, I'd finish off what was left. I don't think they would have adapted well to this new way of eating. Hambugers, pizza, macncheese, spaghetti, linguini w/alfredo was our weekly meal plan. Now, pizza two or three times a year, hamburgers now without Buns and low fat only.

Keep plugging away and one day you'll look in that mirror and see the new you with baggy clothes and the gleeful feeling will return.

Hey Crystal, great job on the wt loss!

I have been banded 9 wks and lost: 48 lbs total; 37 lbs since surgery. I started walking on the treadmill 2 wks from surgery and rarely miss a day. Started out only 15 mins & now up to 1 hr (with occas jogs).

This exercise without a doubt has helped me with the inches. I have dropped 4 pants sizes; 3 shirt sizes & 2 shoe sizes.

Clothing that I could wear at a weight 20-25 lbs lighter than i am now, has been recycled b/c it is simply huge on me.

You did not mention what your exercise routine is, so not sure. I hate that you are so disappointed and feel frumpy with such an incredible wt loss. I just wanted to share how although my wt loss is not overly impressive, my loss in inches has been tremendous.... only wish I would have measured!

Anyway I wanted to share what has helped me and hope it in turn helps you!

---good luck, we are all in this together!

Hi there, congratulations on your success so far! You are on your way. I think this can be a tough time of year. We just have one child and I can't imagine two times the Breakfast and lunch-making then out the door on time, homework balanced with activities....it's a lot! Tomorrow is Friday and hope you have some YOU time. How about getting your toenails painted or buying a potted plant for the kitchen counter -- something to Celebrate how beautifully you are doing. And just think, next year with a significant drop in weight you are going to have a ton of energy. They will be trying to keep up with you!

I agree with Bandista, make sure you occasionally do something for yourself! Take a bubble bath, read a book, crank up the radio and act silly. Sure the weight loss is for you, but you need to Celebrate your successes too. It's so easy to get lost in the shuffle of the kids and work. I think it helps too, when others start commenting on how you look. You are doing great, hang in there, the excitement will come.

I think what you're feeling is totally normal. You've traded in one life for a whole new one and that takes some adjustment and even some grief.

Plus, no matter how much we research and educate ourselves beforehand, I think everyone eventually gets the reality check that while the band is definitely a tool to improve things, it's not something that's going to magically fix our whole lives. Thin people had bad days, put up with hassles, deal with rude people, etc. too.

Finally, there's the boring, practical issue that fatty carbs work on our brain chemistry to bathe us in feel-good hormones like serotonin and dopamine. When we take away the steady drip of our "happy foods", it's completely normal to undergo something of a mild depression as our brain chemistries readjust. That can account for a feeling of "blah" for a little while.

I hope it passes soon and you're able to treat yourself to some new pleasures to get your smile going again. Good luck!

isn't it strange when others are more excited ablutions weight loss than u are. I have those days hen the whole day is one big rush. I have a 4 year old a 2 year old and a 5 month old. I'm the last person on the list that gets taken care of. Try getting a 2 year old to eat proton and veggies first.....

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
