40 lbs. to goal weight, help!

Recommended Posts

I was banded in Feb. of 2010, starting weight of 308 and I'm currently at 218. I haven't lost any weight really in about 8 months. I want to try low carb and get the last 40 pounds off. Please offer me suggestions, recipes or a few days of menus to get me jumpstarted. I've come too far to settle at this point, life has just been crazy and I haven't paid attention to what I have been taking in every day. Thanks for any helpd and suggestions:)

Breakfast

Egg Beater omelet filled with turkey sausage, veggies and low fat cheese.

Scrambled eggs with green chilis and onions. Sprinkle with cheese(low fat and only 1oz)

lunch

Salads with olive oil dressing, chicken or seafood chunks.

Or/Turkey deli meat with cheese sticks

dinner

Any type of meat, vegetables like broccoli, zucchini, cauliflower, bell peppers, salads. No carrots or potatoes.

If you eliminate rice, you can make a mean stuffed pepper with low fat hamburger, mushrooms, veggies.

Breakfast-

1 packet natural oatmeal, 10g almond slices, 10g dried fruit, cinnamon (or add artificial sweetener)

or

1 egg, 2 slices turkey bacon and cheese slice (or shredded melted into egg)

Lunch-

1 can turkey breast, 1 TB mayo, and 1 greek/fruit yogurt

or

1 can progresso lite Soups (this can be broken down to 1/2 can with sides of fruit, lunch meat, or cheese if preferred)

or

chef salad (just keep an eyeball on calories to not overindulge) ideas: boiled egg, sliced meat, cheese, kidney Beans & veggies

or

good ol' bandster chili ahhahah

dinner

grilled chicken with veggies (or go kabob style)

or

fish with a Quinoa and veggie mixture (finely chopped veggies, or simply garlic/mushroom, or ??? whatever you like) as a side

or

veggie burger (no bun) with veggie sticks and/or fruit

Just some examples. I am very low cal. My target cals for each meal is Breakfast: 200 cal, Lunch: 250 cal and Dinner: 350-400 cal. I get at least 60g of Protein in daily and eat my heavy Protein foods first with each meal.

I try to keep my carbs for the morning or afternoon

If I have cravings, I satiate them at lunch time so that it doesnt carry over into late night snacking

Get back to drinking LOTS of Water or crystal lite or icetea etc

Try to wean back on Snacks and get back to 3 meals per day. Takes a few weeks to adjust but just take a away a snack a day until you get there

hope this helps

Are you exercising at all? I don't really monitor what I eat, which I am NOT recommending, I just eat way less. However, I do exercise and am 5 weeks into the C25k program and the scale is still trending downward!

My best suggestion is track all you eat, if you bite it write it! Also a good workout routine will help as well, and most of all mix it up! Both food wise and working out, our bodies are funny if you give it the same thing everyday it knows to expect it and will not burn as well as when you mix up your routine. Keep your body guessing is a very good thing. It has worked for me, I lost 176 pre banding and 24 pounds the first month of having my band, I do not weigh between doctors visits so I won't know for another week how I have done this month. Good luck to you!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
