Parents of Adhd Children

My son(7)was just started on Concerta. We tried the Ritalin without success. He loves it! He actually told me this!

He never participated in class, finally got suspended 2 weeks ago which sent me wailing to our doctor!

WHAT A DIFFERENCE!

My baby is showing his true colors and the teachers are amazed about how much he has changed. We have tried everything since Sept.I changed him schools in Dec.without success.this school is better however because it's smaller(less noise, crowds)

He can look at us in the eyes now, participate verbally in class,no more violent acts ect...

I never thought we would see this change and i was very against medicating but geez he was always frustrated, everyone always dissapointed in him and he was so not himself!

Don;t give up...it does get better!

I didn;t put many details but please know i could write a book about his behavior:)

I feel for you Nana - My 8 yr old has been on Concerta after being on Strattera last year. What a differance it has made. He has never been aggressive and has in fact exceeded the teachers expectations after having a rough start to the school year. He was just tested for the gifted program and in 1 out of 3 areas he excelled. Next school year he will be on a gifted watch list.. all

Regardless of who started the fight the bus Driver should have done something. Regardless if they have labled your son a problem child he still needs to be protected from the kids that know that they can do anything to him and then turn it around and say he started it.

GoodLuck.

i second paul's post. My current boss is going to school to become what she calls a "Physiological Psychoanalyst" LOL Basically she is studying how what we put into our body, and how we treat our body chemically effects our state of mind and the way our brain works. I do not have any experience with ADD or ADHD, but her kids is an ADHD child and was on meds for years. He started getting suicidal, and they took him into the doc to diagnose more problems. The doctor announced he was also Bi-Polar. More meds. The child actually did his own experiment and weaned himself off the meds without his mom knowing. He totally changed. He became calmer, got better grades, saw things clearer and the suicidal tendancies went away. He was 14 at the time. So strong and smart! This made his mom realize that the meds, while they do help some kids, should not be the first answer. He is now doing great, and manages his episodes with coffee and a natural diet high in Fiber and certain Vitamins.< /p>

Plunder, I am a mother of a 17 ADHD son. Diagnosed in Kindergarden, but I knew WAY before...Some suggestions, which may/may not have been mentioned.

1) Read all you can. Here's is a good read w/lots of info .SchwabLearning.org - A Parent's Guide to Helping Kids With Learning Difficulti

2) 504 and IDEA are federal laws and they are different. Even if you son doesn't qualify under IDEA (special education), he will qualify under 504 (civil rights law) w/an ADHD diagnosis. 504 has helped my son, the last 2 years (modifications, content mastery, shortened assignments, longer time to complete work). If you want, you can get the ball rolling this year (if he's been diagnosed).

3) I've tried it all. Biofeedback, nutritional supplements, diet, and several medications. Remember, medication isn't a bad word. No parent wants to put there kids on meds. It's not an "easy out."

Please e-mail, if you want some info. or support. I really am knowledgeable and can point you in the right direction.

Take care. Shawn

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
