Pre-Op Diet...Help!!!

Recommended Posts

Hello All! So it's been awhile since I posted last. I have had to jump through so many hoops in the last year. I finally have a surgery date! Oct. 2 2013. I am officially on my 3-week liquid diet, and it sucks!!!! I have barely started (4 Days in) and I don't know if I can make it. I want to cheat soooo bad. My body keeps telling me that I am starving. I know I am not, but it is difficult. I am doing the Slimfast, Water, and broth. Anyone have any ideas how to make this more tolerable? I really want more salty foods (most of my stuff is chocolate or sweet) I have no clue as to what I can do to get through this experience. If you would comment and let me know how you are doing it or done it I would greatly appreciate the help! Thanks and good luck to everyone else out there!!! ---Christina

If you are craving salt, you are likely dehydrated. Salt helps the body retain Water so your body craves it when it is low on Water.< /p>

The first 3 days of your pre-op diet are the absolute worst, it will get easier from here. You've made it past those, congrats. My husband got a death threat from me on my third day, so I understand it is no joke. The pre-op diet is also the hardest by far. The only other time is after a fill or an unfill you will have a few days of liquids also. That is nothing compared to weeks on liquids only though! Can you call your doctor's office and see if you are allowed any eggs or something else that would be filling but wouldn't de-rail you? Good luck, the pre-op diet is quite the mental fight.

I had cravings for salt also while on my pre and post op liquid diet. The clear chicken broth was a God send for me.

One way I got through those days was to have a multitude of projects planned for me. Everything from daily errands to run, to, by the time I finally reached my surgery date having the cleanest closets and drawers in memory. In other words, I planned ahead to find ways to stay occupied with distracting projects to take my mind off of hunger.

This is the most difficult phase of the banding process. It does get much better!

Best wishes...

sugar free Jello counts as a clear liquid. Hang in there....I practically lived at the mall just window shopping and dreaming of the nice styles i will be wearing soon.

Loved the sugar free Jello option it helped pull me through on the hungry hours. Also, sugar free Popsicles were a Godsend as well.

Gotta keep busy. Go for a walk. It sucks, and will continue to suck. I also went to bed very early. Figured if I was asleep I wouldn't be hungry.

sugar free Popsicles rule. Then go for a walk.

Good luck!!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
