11 months ago I had lap band surgery. I've lost 40 pounds since then, I have no regrets about the surgery but know that I haven't used the band as the tool its suppose to be. So today I'm starting fresh, with the goal of being on track for my next appt with surgeon in November. I am a food addict and its a daily struggle, I've sought professional help and am feeling strong. On the food and nutrition page I plan on logging my daily food intake. Anyone in the same boat or words of wisdom most appreciated!

Congratulations on a fresh start. I am pre-band so don't have any words of wisdom, but as for being in the same boat -- here we all are. Sorting out the head hunger is key as of course it's possible to override the band. I am working on identifying my triggers. Conference calls, for example, send me right to the refrigerator five minutes ahead of time to somehow "prep" myself for something I don't want to do. Then there's boredom, of course, and reward. I know I need to give up these behaviors and I know I have to want to be thinner and healthy more than I want whatever it is I think I'm craving. I want to get to the place where I can trust my body, where I'm in sync. And craving exercise instead of a nibble of something yummy. I sought professional help as well, and I think it's been good for me to talk all of this over with some one. And tracking, that is key. Good for you! Keep us posted -- I will go friend you so your stuff comes up on my notifications. Best wishes for this new phase!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
