What do you do when you're stuck?

Recommended Posts

Still pre-op, so I have no idea what "stuck" feels like, but the idea freaks me out and I realized I have no idea what I'm supposed to do when it happens.

What do you do when you're stuck? What tips and tricks work for you?

How do you know you're OK again afterwards and how long should you wait after a "stuck" episode before eating again?

Thanks SO much for any help!

yes being stuck hurts ! For the most part I think all you can do is wait it out....some times I can bend at the waist over the porcelain throne and what ever is there will come right up.....well not right up takes a few hard burps.....I find lettuce and veggie skins are a sure thing I get stuck on right now....so I try to avoid them....but for me them sticks hurt the most.....and I just have to wait it out....the pain will surly make you think before you eat fast or something with skin again......I love my band !

I park my behind in front of the potty and wait. I can typically bring up whatever is stuck pretty quickly and then I move on. Live and learn, no biggie. Best wishes!

I was stuck earlier today. Takes me about 45-60 minutes for the food to break down enough to pass through the stoma

I sip Water while standing over the toilet...the Water hasd no where to go and will come right back up...usually brings what is in the pouch with it....

I have a lot of people in one of my support groups that carry Papaya Enzyme with them were ever they go....

Getting stuck has never hurt, for me, and I did not freak out about it...it is all part of thr learning curve....

In the beginning, I have gotten stuck as much as 2-3 times a day untill I got it through my thick head I needed to change my ways and get rid of the old habits...for the rest of my life....

When one gets stuck, one has to ask if it is becaause off the band, or is it because of the person not eating correctly...the band is going to bring about change...and I hear all the time where an individual will get stuck, freak out, and get a unfil...and all the while it is really because they are fighting change....sadly, for these people, success is going to be very difficult...

I do not, and have not gotten stuck for over 2 years, and now live a "New Normal" lifestyle....which is very litlle food, and less often, completely removing certain foods from my life forever....and taking on a new nutritional standard....

The end results is indescribable....

I agree... I am 3 weeks post band... I got stuck once...my own fault. I forgot to chew properly...it was more uncomfortable than hurt... And I went to the toilet and bent over.... I don't like being sick so it was good reminder to me that I now have my band and a learning curve and I have used the experience as such...we all learn. And for me it was the hard way lol....

I read on another post. That when they got stuck she took two spoons of coconut oil and it helped make it go down. I thought that was handy in an emergency.

I find sipping Water slowly well help force food through, but when that fails bring it up is the only option leaving food stuck not only causes pain but can cause damage. I shove my fingers down and force myself to bring it up when this happens

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
