One week from surgery :)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone!!!! I just found this app and have to say its super cool and very helpful!!!! I am 23 years old weigh 350 pounds and have been overweight my whole life! I am so ready to change that and getting the lap band seemed like the most effective way to do so. I have my surgery August 26th which is one week from tomorrow :/ scary but exciting!!! I find it empowering to see success stories or you guys who have lost a large amount of weight but I guess what I need is maybe some words of encouragement and maybe some advise as to how you pushed thru the surgery. This is my first surgery EVER so I'm kinda freakin myself out :) would love to hear from you guys and maybe some success stories!!! :)

Stay in touch here if you can. There's so much to learn and most of it you won't or can't understand until you're banded and months have passed by. Here's a link I found today that is inspirational.

Hello pre-banders!! I'm Lauren I am 21 years old, I was banded on Aug 2nd I weighed 210 pounds, this also was my first surgery EVER and I was really nervous too so I asked for some anxiety meds and after that I was fine! Haha but the surgery goes so fast it will be over before you know it! The only pain I had was on my left lower rib where my tube that goes from the band to the port is laying, my port is up around my armpit and I didn't have to much pain with it. The hardest thing for me has been craving food, I was used to eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted so I had a hard time mentally with the liquid stages, it's gotten better now that I'm on the mushies but I promise you will get through it and it will be worth it!! I did go through the completely NORMAL regretful stage where I would ask myself "is this really worth it?" But everything starts to fall into place and you start to loose weight and your like "hell yeah it was!" I have lost 24 pounds! So if any of you have any questions I would love to answer them!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
