Another "too tight" or "swollen" question.

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. Been banded for about 2 1/2 years now. I've done great, dropped 145 pounds. I hit my green zone and stopped getting fills a year and a half ago.

Yesterday I went just to have a check up and get a fill just because I stopped losing and wanted to get back on track. I got 1cc that gave me a total of 5cc in my band.

Later that night I ate a little bit of salad that had ham and cheese in it. I couldn't tolerate it so I stopped eating after a few bites. (I know, I shouldn't have ate that). And I couldn't keep liquids down.

Today at work I got hot and dehydrated since I couldn't keep any liquids down. Had to go to er and get a iv of Water hooked into me.

Now this evening it seems like I can keep liquid down a little better. Still have trouble though.

Is it possible that since I went so long without a fill that maybe I had exess swelling? Or does it sound like my band is too tight?

Have y'all ever have anything get stuck for 24 hours before?

Most doctors recommend liquids for at least 24 hours after a fill then gradually working back onto real food. I suspect your stomach was irritated and swollen from the fill and when you tried to eat, it made it a lot worse.

If you're having trouble with liquids, you need to call your bariatric surgeon ASAP. As you found out, dehydration happens fast and can be serious. It's not something to mess with.

Best wishes.

My Dr. says liquids for 2 days after a fill.. no matter how small the fill is I would think you would have some swelling ... try sipping small amounts of liquids.. in a few days graduate to shakes and creamy stuff.. give your stomach and band time to adjust..If nothing else call your Dr. and tell them what is going on..better safe than sorry..

I am sure you are just swollen

You sound swollen. But I would definitely deter from eating solids on first day which can exasperate swelling.

If you are able to keep any liquids down, get gatoraide (sp) and put into the freezer until not quite frozen then break it up and eat that....helps to sooth the throat and the band but if you can't keep anything down you really need to call your surgeon. FYI for people who don't realize this....Getting an unfill can make you swell too so liquids are also recommended after that (just thought I would throw that out to you) as most banded people aren't aware of this.

Maybe you're too tight? You could get .2cc taken out...

That is great. I would continue on the liquids for the 24-48 hours to make sure and slowly work to mushies. If you have any further problems, I would get some out.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
