Anti inflammatories

Hello!

So I am three weeks post-op and have been experiencing alot of pain in my teeth and mouth. I went to the dentist today and she said I have some inflammation because I grind my teeth at night, which is causing discomfort. I told her that all I can take is children's Tylenol and she said that won't cut it, I need to take an anti-inflammatory. Does anyone have any ideas as to medications that we can take post-op because my dr has said no aspirin like products ever again?

Every doctor is different. I can take ibuprofen without a problem. My doc says its fine. But, you should check with YOUR doc!

We're not supposed to take NSAID's...HOWEVER, you can usually take them fine in liquid form such as liquid motrin. As Nicole says, ask your doc.

Aleve was always my "go to" for any type of pain but no more NSAIDs.

I now use Children's age 2-11 Tylenol oral suspension (its really thick and taste like sweet bubble gum) I prefer the equate brand from Walmart b/c it taste the best.

I use anti-inflammatories every day for severe arthritis. My doctor said he uses them the day of the surgery and could see no problem for me taking them. I use Arthrotec.

Yes I started using liquid children's Tylenol however that is not helping this type of pain. I am use to taking toradol for my endometriosis pains and my doctor has told me to stop taking that, which is really sad because that and aleve is all that works. Imma def call him tomorrow! Maz, liquids only. The problem w/ antiinflammatories w/ the band is that if it sits in the pouch and begins to dissolve it'll effect the tissue by the band. This can lead to erosion of the band where it gets imbedded into the esophogeal tissue. Which requires surgery for removal etc. Just ask doc for liquid OR IV med is really necessary

I have a different understanding of why nsaids are taboo. The drug itself causes the lining of the stomach to be more susceptible to ulcers by inhibiting prostaglandins which protect the lining of the stomach. It's not the physical presence of the pill or drug in the stomach, it's the body's reaction to the drug after it's absorbed and in the blood stream that can cause problems.

I've seen many patients post here that their doc is OK with nsaids but my doctor isn't. I still take them once in a while when I have joint pain but I don't make it a habit. Your doc knows your body better than anyone here so it's always best to follow his/her directions?

Yes all of this is true. It just sucks because I've found that NSAIDs are the best form of pain relief for myself. So guess I just gotta stick it iut

I have severe arthritis and take Voltaren daily. I also take Prilosec to help coat the stomach. My lapband doctor is well aware of this and understands that for now, it's a question of my being able to function somewhat normally. I'm getting hip and knee replacement so of course the hope is that I will go off the NSAIDS once I'm recovered. It always comes down to risk/benefit...which is why you must check with your doctor and follow his/her advice.
