Pain, Discomfort, Acid Refulx Oh My!

Recommended Posts

I'm 1 yr and 6mths post op, lost a total of 87lbs with only 13lbs left to my goal. Within the last 5 mths I've been experincing refulx and discomfort while eating.

I was having sometime where threw up after anything I ate and I honestly waited to long to go to the Dr. When I finally did go he removed 2.5cc out of my band that was filled 5.5cc. I did gain 7lbs during the 6 weeks but the symptoms where gone. After the 6 weeks I got 0.8cc put back in and the symptons came back which resulted in 1cc being removed. I've felt fine for awhile but not I have the acidy feeling in my stomach and some mornings I wake up and vomit the food I ate the day before. (I don't think that's normal) Today I have pain on my left side and around my port. I dont know if something is stuck or if my band slipped.

I'm trying to stay hopeful but it's very hard. I don't want to lose my lapband.....

Well I have a 2pm today with Dr. Dietrick fingers crossed it something simple.

Good for you for going to the doc. It sounds suspiciously like a slipped band but it could just be a dilated pouch. I hope the doc gets you all fixed up!

I have to make sure I don't eat at least two hours before I go to bed otherwise I have trouble at night. Do you eat right before bed?

Does sound like it could be a slip, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll lose the band. My surgeon was able to go in a restitch mine after it slipped, and he added plication, which will help avoid future slips.

And your symptoms sound like mine when I'm too tight. I was having the same problems and had .5 cc removed and have been much better. Now that everything has calmed down, I'm going in for a very small fill next week.

I also take a Zantac every night just as a preventative.

I sounds like you are too tight, generally with a slipped band any foods you intake, including liquid would come right back up. It's good you will be seeing your doctor so he can confirm. I wish you the best and hope it's something that can be corrected by taking out some of the fill. Try drinking aloe juice, it's a natural stomach acid reducer.

Wow. If you have to give yourself 3 hours lead time to drink before you go to sleep then something is definitely wrong. That would dehydrate me if I had to limit my liquid intake that early every night.

Sorry for the delay in response but here's my update:

visited the Dr and he removed ALL the fliquid from my band which felt great. I was schd. for an Upper GI today and we found that my stomach has slipped above my band so I have been schd. for surgery tomorrow at 11am.

I'm very nervous but since I know what to expect I just want to get it over with. After surgery i will restart my lapband process :)

I had surgery on Wednesday to unlock my band and predisposition my stomach. Lucky there was no swelling of the stomach so they were able to re-lock my bad (if there was swelling we would have to wait 12 weeks to re-lock the band). My procedure was done laporoscopicly, 5 incisions (the Dr was nice enough to reopen my 4 previous incisions). I will be on a liquid diet for 5 day, followed by soft foods and then regular foods. On Sept 5th I have a check up and at that time we will discuss filling my band.

I feel okay just sore and groggy from the surgery but I am glad I didn't wait.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
