Max weight loss

I keep hearing that with lap band, you lose about 60% of your excess body weight. Is that if you only use the band to control your eating versus adding exercise? I see so many wonderful success stories on these boards that clearly have exceeded 60%!!

the more (one does) ie eating/exercising, the better the results

What carolinagirl says is true. The band does not do the work for you, it helps you. If you do not keep up with adjustments, you will be able to eat more than what is suggested and if you are are losing weight and do not excercise, you will hit a plateau and get stuck on a certain weight. I started excercising and that made a huge difference. I was banded on 6/20/13 and I have lost 102 lbs. I need 16 lbs to lose to reach my goal. It feels great! Good luck :)

60% is an average. As CG says, the more you put into it, the more successful you can be. I've exceeded the 'average' weight loss and expect to reach my weight goal..or at least come close. I'll likely need some plastic surgery and until that happens, I'll carry some extra weight due to the loose skin.

You can lose as much as you're willing to work to lose. If you want to only lose 60% then great but it's completely in your control whether you lose 10% or 100% of your excess weight.

I've lost 227 pounds in 19 months and I'm still losing. That's 87% of my excess weight.

I know of many on here who've lost 100% of their excess weight.

I agree with the above statements but I also think that the more you lose the better you feel and that give motivation to keep going towards your goal which for most of us is over 60%.

I disagree with most stats anyways as this is an individual based experience. Some have more success then others but I am not so sure that is all because of the band. Again, band is just a tool so it is really in the hands of the person to put it good use and put the work and effort in. Someone who exercises regularly and watches portions/quality is going to be far more successful then someone who doesn't exercise and eats whatever they want until the band says they're full. Good choices are key.

Compliance plays such a huge factor in gauging success. I think I would be further along my journey if I exercised with more consistency.

HA! I was trying to do the math when I scrolled down... 100 lbs in 2 months... I know of a guy that lost 70lbs in 3 months from a gastric sleeve. Maybe it was supposed to be 2012(not 2013)?

She was banded in 2012 and I am sure she just made a mistake with the date. Hell, sometimes I catch myself saying 3xx as oppose to 2xx when talking about my weight.

I have lost 102% of my excess weight. Remember that when companies figure out the avg percent (40-60%), they look at everyone in the study.this includes people who never lost any weight, people who lost more than their excess, and the ones in between.

The sky is the limit and it's all about the changes you make in your life whether you are "average" or above average.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
