Other peoples opinions

Recommended Posts

Ok so I was picking up my daughter from daycare and speaking to a lady friend there about the lap band surgery and someone who had overheard the conversation decided to chime in and tell me how dangerous the lap band is and that there's a big risk of internal bleeding and blah blah blah... I just need to keep my mouth shut because other peoples opinions really bother me. The lady who put it into my conversation was thinner than a toothpick and had not had lap band or any of the weight loss surgery herself so I'm not sure she was qualified to advise me either way. I'm already pretty emotional trying to mentally and physically get ready for this surgery and comments like that just throw me off.

Its funny how skinny people think. My sister once tried to tell me what i should eat. It was a interesting conversation we were talking about Snacks and i told her i can still eat anything i want just smaller portions, for some reason she didnt understand that.

I dont tell anyone i had surgery simply because it is my personal business. But i believe if you do choose to tell someone they shouldnt try to tell you what you did was wrong.

After all most of the skinny people people were probably never fat in their life they have no idea what.it feels like to be fat, and go through the struggles to loose weight.

Actually I would associate internal bleeding with something like bypass and the sleeve because they are actually cutting and reconnecting parts that are prone to tear, adhesions, infection etc where they are resutured.

In those uncomfortable situations, simply be polite and ask "oh, did you do alot of personal research and which surgery did you end up choosing?" "no, and you never needed it? Than why are you qualified to dissuade me from a medical decision you are clearly unqualified to talk about" just for sh*ts and giggles

Thanks everyone...for some reason this really got to and I wish I could have said. This just pushes me to work hard and make the band work in my favor. I understand that there could be complications but good things rarely come easy for me....and i am glad about that.

Opinions are like navel's or A hole's everyone has one.. You will get lots of advice from people who have no idea what they are talking about. Ignore them and move on towards your healthy life... The lapband is the best thing I have ever done for myself.. should have done it years ago before all the diets, pills, shots, fake food, etc. I would have saved myself alot of money and aggrevation., If I saw that woman again I would ask her which surgery she had or if she had a medical degree...lol

With your common sense and determination I have a gut feeling that you are going to be very successful with your banding. I look forward to following your journey! Best of luck to you!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
