good lap-band docs in tx panhandle

Recommended Posts

:help: Does anyone know of or have you used a lap-band doc in the amarillo area or anywhere close? To my knowledge there is only one doc in amarillo that does it, but he does not have alot of experience. Lubbock is the next closest but I don't know alot about the doctors there. Even a good doc around Oklahoma city is worth looking into. Please Help!

Look on obesityhelp.com, you can search for bariatric surgeons located in your area (top of page, once you're on website). It's a start! good luck, Shawn

There are none in Amarillo area (unless they've come in the last 6 mo.); there is one that goes to Lubbock from the Dallas area sometimes. There are a number in the Oklahoma City area......most of the people from Amarillo go there.

They are missing a gold mine by not doing it there......Amarillo and Lubbock both have made the 'fattest city in the usa' list in the past 5 years!! LOL!!!

There is a good doctor in Decacatur, lots of experience; it's just a few miles from DFW airport so might be a good option for you. (Stewart)

A week later......

I stand corrected! I talked to my aunt in Borger today and she said that a doctor just started advertising on the Amarillo TV channels this week that they are doing bariatric surgery there. Don't know what kind or who but apparently someone has come in there.

Good luck!

I bet there are some good ones in Lubbock. My primary physician suggested the office in Abilene (he wouldn't have any other way :girl_hug: ) And it has been great so far...I love it that so many people in the office have had the band and can answer all of my little questions. They are also awesome in that they just handled all of my records, insurance, everything. They wrote the letters, wrestled with insurance, I feel like all I had to do was show up practically--really reduced my stress.

Just make sure you get one that's got some experience...if the doc just started advertising... make sure that's all they just started.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
