When did you start putting Mederma on your incisions?

Recommended Posts

I'm only 1 week post-op but am wondering when you guys starting putting Mederma or other scar reducing things on your incisions? I'm assuming I can't this soon because they're not healed yet but I want to as soon as I can so hopefully the scars won't be too noticeable when they're all healed!

I would say 6-8 weeks after your surgery. You can start with pure cocoa butter in about another week though. I used cocoa butter for two weeks before my procedure to give my skin a head start. As you lose weight, your scars are going to get smaller anyway. Some people's scars are hardly visible a year out, one of my friends got rid of her surgical scars and stretch marks in about 7 months, but she was very diligent about using mederma, cocoa and shea butter on her tummy 2 -3x a day.

My Doc told me not to put anything on the scars for 6 weeks. So I would agree with prettythick1 .

I have been wondering the same thing! I go to my surgeon on Tues and plan on asking him that very question.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
