I hear all of ya! My banding is the 23rd and I'm as nervous as a cat. But that means I'm determined to do everything right. I have most of doctors ordering liquid or dissolvable pills for me and the ones I won't be able to take because you have to take them whole I am going to wean off of as my preop starts 8-8. But those hopefully will be the ones I won't need to take anyway after surgery. My main worry is that I will be able to take the liquid meds after surgery as I have a tendency to get seizures if I don't take those certain meds. Scary!! Big breath......calming down....I know this can work out....it's hard for me to take everything for granted (that it will work out) I have to plan and make sure my end is as it should be and leave the rest of it up to God and the surgeon. I hope this finds all of you in good health and well being in the weeks and months ahead. We are all doing this because we need to for various reasons but health I would say is the best one. Kudos to all of you. Donna

My band is August 12th, I'm nervous as well. Concerned about the procedure itself, pain, recovery etc. Also nervous about being successful, wondering if I'll be able to change my life and eating habits as drastically as required. I just need to stay focused and believe that everything will fall into place the way it should.

I'm also being banded on the 12th!! We'll have to check in and see how it is going.

I've just dropped the kids off at their grandparents ready for my surgery tomorrow *wipes tears away*.

Now I need to pack my bag for hospital and I'm ready. I can't believe after all these months of waiting the big day is finally here. By lunchtime tomorrow I will have a lapband. I'm praying for a smooth surgery and fast recovery!

I'm right behind you. Good luck and we will talk to you on the other side.

My date is 8/14. Anyone else nervous? My surgeon only requires a few days of Clear Liquids. It sounds like each surgeon has their own preferences. Anyone want to be buddies through this process? I know we can all get through the diet and surgery- we just need to think about our goals we want :)

Always looking for more buddies thru this process! I think the more support the better. My date is August 12, we are about the same time good luck!

I'm scheduled for Aug 15th. My Dr is requiring 2 weeks liquid diet using only these Optifast shakes that I have to buy from their office. (Not cheap) Today is Day 4 and I'm struggling and worried. If I can't make it these 2 weeks before the surgery, what will it be like after surgery? I've already substituted one of the shakes for some cheddar cheese slices and yesterday. I substituted another shake for a baked sweet potato with no butter. Is that really horrible? The calories seem to be about the same as the shakes. *****Im starting to freak out a bit*****

I’m now entering my 8th year of being banded and have talked about this here several times but I think it’s worth repeating for new bandsters.

Try and take it one day at a time. Don’t compare yourself to others. Don’t go into this journey saying “I’ll never be able to eat this or that ever again.” I can eat ANYTHING except rice and apple skins and no carbonated beverages. Follow the guidelines given to you by your doctor. Remember… take tiny bites (the size of your pinky fingernail) and remember to finish what you have in your mouth before you take your next bite.

When I was losing weight I checked in every month with my family doctor to get weighed and measured. (I don’t own scales) I also attended two coffee groups for people that were banded. These things really kept me motivated and on track. I still check in every month with my family doctor to get weighed-in and I host two coffee groups. For me support from fellow bandsters plays a big part in this journey.

Back when I was banded my family doctor came up with something called the “Egg Timer Distraction”. It’s kind of difficult to explain here but I’d be happy to email you the .pdf document. It REALLY helped me with “head hunger”. I can’t tell you the number of people in my lapband coffee groups over the years that have said how helpful this “trick” has been in dealing with their head hunger.

Also, I’m not really a “diet” book type person but I recommend you pick up two books.

Eat What You Love, Love What You Eat: How to Break Your Eat-Repent-Repeat Cycle – by Dr. Michelle May

I had the pleasure of hearing Dr. May speak at a conference when she came to Toronto and her book and guidelines really work well with the lapband journey.

The second book is:

The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite – by David L. Kessler

Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions and also if you would like a copy of the “Egg Timer Distraction Document”. --- tomander@bell.net

I would call the Dr.'s office and check. I have a 10 day pre-op diet that I'm now on, it allows things like cottage cheese and sugar-free Jello and pudding as well as creme Soups. I guess every doctor is different, but I would most certainly call in and find out if it is ok to substitute.

Hey guys! I just had my surgery this past Tuesday July 30th. I was 389 when I started and with my pre-op diet I lost 14 pounds. I too had to eat all my fav foods. I know and hope eventually I can enjoy them again just in a different way. I'm feeling good. Just to the point where I'm tired of the liquid diet that is after surgery. I'm so ready for my soft mushy food diet. I found out about this site last night through a girl who is apart of the norton weight management support group on Facebook. This is great we have all these ways to support one another and to get each other through the highs and lows of our new beginning.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
