I go for my first fill today and realize my doctor was spot-on with the timing - 3 weeks from my surgery date. Today is the first time my Breakfast hasn't lasted 4-5 hours; it's only been 3 hours and now I'm hungry. One quick question: is it a good idea to be full when you get the fill? I'm starving and know I'm not going to make it until my appointment time.

Not for me, my doc asks I only have liquids 3-4 hours before a fill. Try a Soup to get you by?

No, it is not a good idea. I always fast before and after my fills. Do drink some Water and tea or coffee which ever is your preference.

What a great question! I never thought about it but I usually ho on an empty stomach. I will have my coffee (because I love my coffee) but on fill day I go on an empty stomach (except for my coffee of course)

I've actually never fasted before a fill. Not on purpose anyway! I usually make sure I eat well before a fill because I know it'll be a few days before I'll eat well again. In fact if I haven't had time to eat before going in for my appt, I'll stop at a cafe along the way just to pick something up to eat.

I've even told my doctor I do this and he didn't think anything of it.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
