Feel like i cant go out.

Recommended Posts

Hi

Im just short of a moth since I was banded. But ever since I feel like I can't go out. I go to work fine but I work in an office on my own!

Just the thought of going out makes me feel sick and start to panic, I get shaky, feel like I'm going to be sick, and I start to cry.

Iv been invited out to a lot of events that are coming up, one is this Saturday.

I don't know what to do, how to stop feelin like this. Before my op I didn't have any problems like this going out wouldn't normally bother me. Iv started my own business in adult toys and I would have been quite happy to go into someone else's house and talk sex all night. But now just the thought of going anywhere sends me funny.

It's really hard for me to explain how I feel. Iv tried to talk to my boyfriend but he doesn't understand, i have also got a friend who I talk to quite a lot and she is telling me to go to the doctors but I'm scared of doing that.

U feel like everyone is looking at me and talking about me. And it sounds stupid I know that but I can't stop it

Is or has anyone felt the same?

Sending you (((hugs))). I agree with your friend, talk to a doctor. Its sounds like you are getting agoraphobia. The longer you let it fester, the worse it will become. Please seek help! You are strong, best wishes! Karen

Anxiety is normal but it will pass. Progress breeds confidence and new confidence continues to raise the bar... I remember being scared to death to be seen without a shirt and now I have days that I'm allergic to shirts... :-) If you surpassed the anxiety of marketing products you'll whip this no problem!

I agree- I would talk to somebody, a counselor could help you sort out your anxiety. Good luck! Hope you feel better soon!

Anxiety. I understand how you feel and wonder if I am going thru the same. I work from home so I only leave to take my son to and from daycare and go to gym. Plus I think we're anxious being faced with temptation at parties. Remember others don't know how you feel or what ur thinking so "fake it till you make it" and so don't be afraid to ask ur dr for something. Good luck.

You shouldn't be scared to talk to your doctors. They are there to help you. I've always felt like people were always looking and talking about me because I was almost 400lbs. I get it from strangers, family(which hurts the most), so called friends. You made the choice to change your life by getting the band. Once you start shedding those pounds you will feel better health wise and in confidence. People will start noticing the changes in you. its hard to say ignore what others say and think but its true. its about how you feel. be young and beautiful ,a lot of people are on your side.

Please talk to your doctor or a counselor, what you are experiencing is not normal and I don't believe it's related to the band. Please keep us posted.

Anxiety issues aren't logical. All of a sudden the things that you've been doing for years can cause you to feel like you are choking, or your heart may feel like it's beating too fast. Or as in your case, you may feel sick to the stomach. Anxiety can manifest in many ways.

I was a therapist for years. I've also, had an anxiety disorder for years. In addition, I've dealt with having agoraphobia. While I'm doing a lot better now, there are still times when I have anxiety issues.

Talking with your doctor, or a therapist, can help you get a handle on things. It may be that the anxiety you are experiencing is a temporary emotional reaction to learning to live with your band. Or, it may be an anxiety disorder. The only way to know for sure what it is and how to deal with it is to consult a professional. If it is an anxiety disorder, your symptoms may worsen without help. You sound like a very strong, independent woman. Just remember, even strong women need help from time to time.

Whoooaaa! I CAN RELATE!

Our choices are forced to be different! Life is different! Our mind set is different!

I too feel as if those who know are constantly looking me up AND down...comparing...wondering...asking. Someone asked after 12 days ... "So since you are feeling better, would you have this again" OHHH MYYYYY...doesn;t it take like a year to be able to answer THAT question???

I think it takes a bit to shed all of the anesthesia out of your system therefore making you batSH&%cray cray for a bit!!

Hold your head high take a gulp and GO FOR IT!!! WE GOT THIS!! This morning was my first trip back to the gym in about 6 months...and even that took some gumption!

You have just made a major change to your life. You underwent major surgery and you are not the same as you were before. You are better then you were before, because you took control of your life, and made changes to it for the better. That is where you are right now, you are at a cross roads where fear and anxiety are taking control over you and your life. You don't have to accept that. I agree with everyone here when they say speak to someone, and you are reaching out and we are responding to you, and we are all here to support you.

Sometimes it takes a little more, and a councelor, therepist, or even your doctor family or friend can be there to hold your hand and help you make the next steps.

Don't lock yourself in. Not in your house, or in your mind or anywhere else. Take back your control so that you can take the steps you need to feel secure and safe again.

Get out there and shake a tail feather, let the world see how strong you are and it's great for weightloss too!

I see where you are coming from, Anxiety can be a nasty thing. Can hinder a lot, so I would say the same as others... maybe set an apt with the Doc and see if that helps. I'm sorry you are going through this, just added stress! Hope you start feeling better soon and get back to your normal self soon! Best Wishes! Let us know how you are doing!!!!! :D

Hayley-

I completely understand where your coming from. Pre-band I always had some anxiety but nothing major. @ my two-week post-op visit I just completely broke down on my doctor (who also is a close friend, so not your typical doctor-patient relationship). She started me on 50mg of Zoloft a day, after a week or so of taking it I felt great. I know some people can deal with anxiety without medication and I think that is amazing, but unfortunately I am not one of those people. I recommend talking to your doctor. Don't let this keep you in, your going to loose plenty of weight and you gotta get out there girl to show it off!

Thank you all for your replays and advise.

I thought I was going ok until last night I went to a family BBQ and I was fine for a few hours until more people turned up and I can only describe what happened as a voice in my head telling me what people where thinking about me. Making me more and more nervous and wanting the ground to swallow me up.

I didn't last too long after that before I had to go inside where I broke down crying.

Safe to say I'm going the doctors on Monday!! I can't cope like this and I can't let it get any worse. X

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
