Hello All,

I've posted this on other forums but have not landed much of a response. Do any of you have a realize band? Did you request it? What do you think about the realize band vs the Lapband? Advantages/disadvantages of the realize band? I'm trying to learn about the two.

Thanks,

Maggie

Never heard of it. How is it different from the regular one?

I have a lap band and despite some issues I have had, I am very happy with it. I have a friend who had a realize band placed and has done really well with it. She is almost to goal! I know her experiences with restriction etc have been very similiar to mine.

I have a Realize band, which was placed in February, 2012. I was not given a choice by my surgeon at the Center for Excellence where my surgery was performed. I did ask about other options, however I was advised by my surgeon that he only used the Realize band.

I have no evidence to support this- just what I read when researching- a lot of people with realize said they had trouble feeling restriction because its so low pressure.

I have the Realize Band, the Doc didn't give me a choice, but I do know that they use the Realize Band 10cc and 15cc, I received the 10cc band. He based his decision on my anatomy. I did get restriction by my first fill, the nurse said it was because he used the 10cc band instead of the 15cc which he usually uses, they usually see restriction with the 15cc around fill 3 or 4. I'm only 6 weeks out, but I have had no problems.

Thank you everyone!

Went to youtube and a Doctor talked about the difference between the two, the only difference between the two is the profile (thickness) of the Realize port.

As for the poster that states realize is a low pressure band - true - but Doc said that Lap-band is now low pressure.

I have felt restriction from the first day I had my Realize band, and I had to wait 14 weeks post op for my first fill. We are all unique individuals, and we will all have slightly different experiences traveling a similar journey.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
