question

Has anyone ever heard of or experiences a vasovagal syncope?

It's when you pass out from eating too much(what er said) and the lap band squeezes you and you pass out. The weird thing is that I had egg salad and 2 onion rings but I did feel uncomfortable. This is the third time this has happened since Jan.

I guess I have to slow down. Just looking for feedback. This is kinda freaking me out.

I was diagnosed with vasovagal syncope last year, was banded this year. There are many causes for it. Dehydration can be a big factor which is what they think my problem was due to the blood pressure medication with diuretics in them. Some people experience it when they see blood or gory things. I passed out while teaching a class and started having more frequent dizzy spells. Finally went to my primary doc who referred me to the cardiologist who did a bunch of tests including a tilt table test where I passed out. Found out I dropped by blood pressure pretty significantly with it ( systolic, top number, in the 40's) and now I am on medications for it. I haven't had any problems since being banded this May, am off my blood pressure meds but my cardiologist plans to keep me on the med for my vasovagal syncope since my blood pressure dropped so low. I never thought about having issues with the band and the syncope, my cardiologist or bariatric surgeon didn't mention any concerns either. Good luck.

Your vagus nerve is essentially "stimulated" by the band. In fact, that's the reason when there's adequate Fluid in the band you're satisfied on very little food. It makes sense it could result in vasovagal syncope because it's the vagus nerve where it originates. (though as stated above, vasovagal syncope isn't when you pass out from eating too much, there's a lot of things that cause it)
